Capricorn Zodiac Tattoo

Today, few people are surprised by the presence of tattoos on the bodies of young people. Although quite recently it was considered something shameful.

Needless to say, even now, it happens that happy tattoo owners catch on themselves the surprised, and sometimes frightened and condemning glances of the inhabitants. Nevertheless, the desire to cover your body with graceful, and sometimes bright and defiant drawings has taken root again in the territory of the post-Soviet space.

And, if earlier tattooed people tried to put some important meaning for themselves in the drawings that they dreamed of permanently imprinting on their bodies, now some special meaning is invested in tattoos less and less.

Often, people are simply driven by the desire to stand out from the crowd, decorate their bodies, make themselves more attractive to the opposite sex, creating a kind of aura of mystery and sexuality around them through a tattoo.

However, among those who want to pay tribute to the growing fashion for tattoos, there are still true connoisseurs of the art of body painting, for whom applying a drawing on their body remains a serious and responsible step, in which they put a special meaning. Therefore, many of the admirers of the art of tattooing want to imprint their zodiac sign on their body. Today we will tell you what the meaning of a tattoo with the Capricorn zodiac sign is.

The history of the Capricorn symbol

We all have a certain idea of the sign of the zodiac, to which we are ranked according to the time of birth. And when it comes to Capricorns, then everyone immediately imagines an evil, melancholic gloomy man who doesn't get along well with people, is silent, stingy, rancorous, and selfish. However, few people know that the symbol of Capricorn (a goat with a fish tail) traces its history (according to one version) from the time of Ancient Greece. In ancient Greek mythology, Capricorn was depicted as a man with goat legs and horns on his head. But they called him, however, not Capricorn, but Pan. According to legend, Pan was considered the son of the god Hermes and Dryopa (although some sources indicate a different name for the mother). One way or another, and Pan had at least half divine origin.

When Pan's mother saw a strange creature with goat legs, which immediately burst into an otherworldly deafening laugh and began to run and jump frantically, she was seized with disgust and horror - she abandoned the child. However, Pan's father, Hermes, did not want to leave his son. The young god wrapped the baby in hare skins and took him to the original abode of the ancient Greek gods - to Mount Olympus. The playful and funny child amused the gods of Olympus so much that they named him Pan, which in Greek means “all”. After all, the amazing cheerful son of Hermes brought them "universal" joy.

When Pan grew up, he did not want to live on Olympus with other gods, but went into dense forests. More than anything, this amazing demigod loves playing the flute and grazing flocks of sheep. Young nymphs run from the forest to the wonderful gentle sounds of the flute, who love to lead round dances with Pan, starting into a frantic dance. Not alien to the loving patron of forests and flocks and carnal pleasures, which he often indulges in with beautiful nymphs. Only a few of them were able to reject his persistent love - one of such unapproachable beauties was the beautiful Siringa. You can often see Pan in the noisy company of the god of wine and fertility Dionysus. Together, surrounded by young nymphs and maenads, goat-footed satyrs, they march from settlement to settlement, bringing local residents, who are not alien to the joy of life, into frantic delight, dragging them along.

However, some are terribly afraid of Pan, because it is easy to anger him, and then troubles cannot be avoided. It is not for nothing that the fear that the night forest noise brings to travelers is called "panic". Timid shepherds are also afraid to wake up the hot-tempered god of the forests. In the afternoon, they do not take the flute in their hands, fearing to disturb the angry god. The arrogant and domineering gods of Olympus respected and loved Pan for his labors and invaluable help in earthly affairs. For his services to Olympus, Pan was immortalized in the constellation Capricorn.

In Mesopotamia, on the day of the winter solstice, the holiday of the "goat" (under the constellation Capricorn) was noisily celebrated. On this day, even the clergy wore goatskins.

The ancient Jews called Azazel the rite of "scattering the goat". On the day of the ritual, goats were sacrificed everywhere, and one goat was released into the desert, laying on it all the sins of the people. This is where the popular expression "scapegoat" originates. Azazel was also, according to Hebrew beliefs, a fallen angel who dared to challenge God. Some peoples attribute to Azazal the role of a tempting snake, because it was he who taught women the art of seducing men, and men to use cold weapons.

Capricorn Tattoo Ideas

When you have decided on the plot of the drawing with which you want to decorate your body, it is important to take a responsible approach to the choice of the style in which the work will be done. To date, only a little more than a dozen tattoo styles have become widespread. There are no specific rules or canons that oblige you to follow any canons. However, we will still try to find the technique of performance that is right for you.

Graphics

Often, masters and their clients choose this style for the execution of a Capricorn tattoo. Graphics are characterized by the use of dots and dashes, with the help of which the entire drawing will be completed. Like Capricorn himself, graphic style very conservative and does not accept half measures and compromises - the colors of such a pattern will be saturated, deep. Graphics do not tolerate diluted gentle tones.

Neo-traditional

If you decide to return to the origins of the Capricorn symbol (the ancient Greek god Pan), then such a style as Neo-traditional will be very useful. This style is characterized by the brightness of the composition, clear, one might say, even scrupulous detailing of the picture, "fresh" images, complex play of color (which gives the impression of some resemblance of Neo-traditional to realism), three-dimensional image of details. All these features of this style perfectly emphasize the unconventional appearance of Capricorn in the image of the riotous, violent and cheerful god Pan.

Realism

This style of tattoo art is considered to be one of the most difficult. This is not surprising - take the trouble to draw realistic portrait of a manso that he "lives and breathes." In order to master the technique of realism, a tattoo artist must draw wonderfully. Capricorn in the form of Pan is ideal for this technique. You can add a few details in the form of a bunch of grapes or a charming nymph.

Minimalism

Few people born under the sign of Capricorn like to flaunt themselves, stealth is part of the Capricorn nature. The name of the style speaks for itself - it is a small drawing (sometimes very tiny) that displays something very personal for the wearer of this tattoo. Works in the style of minimalism rarely have a rich palette of colors. They are often completely black and white. However, this does not prevent such images from being fantastically harmonious.

Dotwork

The majority of male fans of tattoo art decides to depict their zodiac sign in this style. This is explained by dotwork style works usually bulky, flashy, differing in contrast and brightness. A characteristic feature of the style is the “point” technique. These tattoos are usually done in black. Sometimes there is a catchy combination of red and black. Dotwork is perfectly combined with the semantic load of the Capricorn sign, displaying perseverance, stamina, strength of character, courage, uncompromisingness.

Trash polka

This style perfectly reflects the rebellious and wild essence of the god Pan, because both the god himself and his riotous retinue have always caused conflicting feelings in people: delight and at the same time disgust, mixed with fear. The trash polka style is designed to evoke the same feelings among the inhabitants as the sight of the cheerful retinue of Dionysus and Pan: admiration and horror. A bold image of Capricorn in the style of trash polka will suit both guys and girls who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd, show off their individuality.

Capricorn compatibility with other symbols

If you want to move away from the traditional image of the zodiac Capricorn in the form of a goat with a fish tail, then you can safely turn to the origins of the nature of the symbol of Capricorn - the cheerful god Pan. Here it will be useful to depict a dancing goat-footed god in a round dance with nymphs and maenads, with a pipe in his hands or against the background of a bunch of grapes (as a tribute to Dionysus, Pan's companion and the god of winemaking).

Admirers of the talent of CS Lewis and his unforgettable Chronicles of Narnia can portray a goat-footed satyr walking with a girl by the hand (Mr. Tumnus and Lucy) as a memory of childhood, of a fairy tale that is always with us. Do not forget that in his work the writer and philosopher Clive Lewis often refers to ancient Greek mythology (nymphs, dryads, fauns, deification of natural elements).

You can depict Capricorn on background of the planet Saturn - his patron.

A little more about the symbolism of Capricorn

Since early Christianity, the image of the goat has been attributed to something devilish. And during the Middle Ages, everything that was associated with paganism was even branded as "devilish". The girls who were persecuted by the Inquisition were credited with participating in sabbats (there is a connection with the festivities of Dionysus, Pan and their Dryads), accused of having sexual relations with Satan (whose appearance, by the way, has much in common with the fauns). One way or another, the image of Capricorn was greatly distorted and blackened during the times of the dominance of the church. During the Renaissance, artists and other artists increasingly began to turn in their work to images from the myths of Ancient Greece and Rome. Renaissance humanists, for example, wanted a return to the ancient canons: the glorification of the beauty of the human body, the human spirit.

In the modern world, there are still opinions about the "devilish" nature of paganism. Which one to consider the nature of Capricorn, devilish or divine, is up to you. After all, the devil was once an angel. And the world, alas, is not divided into "black" and "white".
