Apparently, the flower received such a warlike name due to the shape of its stem, which really resembles the blade of an ancient weapon. The image of gladiolus was worn by warriors and mercenaries, believing that such an amulet would give more dexterity in handling weapons and protect from wounds.
And only in the eighteenth century, gladiolus becomes a symbol of healing and tenderness. It has retained this meaning to this day. Therefore, most often, graceful young girls fill a gladiolus tattoo. Places of drawing are quite traditional:
