What the Wheel of Fortune presents in Tarot - card description

The Wheel of Fortune card, like the other Great Arcana cards, differs significantly from deck to deck. The images generally depict a six- or eight-spoke wheel, often carried or rotated by a person (sometimes human, sometimes sphinx-like) wearing an Egyptian-style headdress. In some decks, such as the AG Müller, the wheel is also operated by the person wearing the blindfold.

In some decks, the wheel is also marked with additional alchemical symbols to represent the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

On the pictorial card presented here (Waite's deck), on the corners there are also four winged creatures, representing the symbols of the four Evangelists (the Lion, the Ox, the Man and the Eagle). These four evangelists are also represented by four established astrological signs: Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio. In addition, we see the figure of the god Anubis floating with the wheel on the right, while Typhon lowers on the left.

Meaning and symbolism - fortune telling

The Wheel of Fortune card in Tarot symbolizes, above all, fate and destiny. In its basic (simple) form, it means happiness understood in general (in love, work, etc.). In the opposite position, the meaning of the card is also reversed - then it means the overall understood misfortune - bad luck in various areas of life (love, work, etc.).
