Description, mining

Topaz is a semi-precious stone that often forms in greisens and granite pegmatites. The chemical formula of topaz is Al2 [SiO4] (F, OH) 2. Often found near deposits of tourmaline, smoky quartz, morion. Crystals have even shading of white color. Its luster is glassy and bright. Topaz is a very hard mineral and therefore difficult to process. Due to perfect cleavage, it should not be attempted to scratch it to check its hardness. For the same reason, when cutting and inserting into a frame, work must be done very carefully. The stone has a very high density - if you lower it into water, it will sink.
