Description

Tsavorite is a natural mineral belonging to the group of garnets.

It got its name from the place where it was first discovered. It happened in Tanzania, off the banks of the Tsavo River in the park of the same name. It happened not so long ago - in 1967, and the discoverer of tsavorite is considered a geologist from Britain - Campbell Bridge. Since then, the gem has gained considerable popularity and is considered a rather expensive jewelry stone. However, to this day, tsavorite crystals are mined only in Tanzania, and a small part - in Kenya.

As a rule, the hue and saturation of the mineral depends on impurities, but in most cases this is influenced by vanadium in the composition of the stone. In exceptional cases, the gemstone also receives its color from chromium, which also gives the beautiful green color to tsavorite.

Interesting! Until 1974, the mineral was known only to specialists, until Tiffany and Co launched an effective advertising campaign, during which the gem gained wider recognition.
