Ammolite is a relatively rare stone, which in its essence is not a mineral, but belongs to the jewelry of organic origin. Even its name can tell a lot, because ammonites are ancient mollusks. Actually, ammolite is a fossilized mother-of-pearl layer of their shell. In addition, the stone is considered the most valuable among its "brothers" of organic origin.

Description

The history of ammolite began relatively recently. Its commercial mining dates back only to 1981, after it was classified as a gemstone. Initially, the deposits of the most beautiful shells could be listed on the fingers of one hand, where Canada occupied the main championship. However, already in 2018, Russia competed with it with a field in Taimyr.

Ammolite consists predominantly of calcium carbonate, with iron disulfide and silicon dioxide considered as the main impurities. The shades of the shell can be so different that the main color scheme sometimes has several colors at once:

• blood green;
• red-lemon;
• sky green;
• aquamarine;
• less often - lilac and pink.

The most valuable are stones that contain several colors at once, evenly spaced throughout the shell.

As for the other characteristics, ammolite has a number of high quality indicators:

• due to the density and saturation of the color, it is opaque, but sunlight shines through in areas of thin edges;
• hardness - from 5 points on the Mohs scale;
• the presence of the effect of iridescence.

The quality of ammolite is determined according to the analyzes carried out. As a rule, the number of colors in the stone and the presence of an iridescent glow are of the greatest importance.

Despite the relative "youth" of the stone, both specialists in the field of alternative medicine and esotericists are sure that it has a number of healing and magical properties.
