Eremeevite is a rare exceptional gemstone. It was first discovered in 1883 in Transbaikalia, but at that time it was simply confused with aquamarine, since the minerals are very similar in appearance. Only a detailed study of the found crystal made it possible to determine its uniqueness and assign it to a separate group.

Description

Eremeevite is a natural gem, aluminum borate with impurities of fluorine anions. The shape of the crystal is a prism with rounded irregularly shaped edges. The hardness is quite high - 8 on the Mohs scale. Shades of eremeevite can be different, but mostly they are soft colors: pale yellow-brown, light green with blue impurities, pale blue, sometimes colorless. The luster is glassy, ​​the transparency is pure.

The mineral was first discovered on Mount Soktui (Transbaikalia). It received its “name” thanks to the Russian geologist and mineralogist Pavel Vladimirovich Eremeev, who studied the optical properties of the stone, described its morphology and identified it as a separate mineral species. The first mention of eremeyite appeared in the minutes of the meeting of the Imperial Mineralogical Society in St. Petersburg on February 15, 1868.

The main deposits of the gem are located in the territories of Namibia, Burma, Tajikistan, Germany, a very small part - in Russia.
