Dalmatian stone, also incorrectly called jasper, is a light gray, cream, or beige-brown stone composed of feldspar and quartz. With black or brown spots of iron oxide, tourmaline or other mineral inclusions that resemble the fur of Dalmatian dogs. Jasper is produced in Chihuahua, Mexico.

characteristic

Dalmatian stone is a homogeneous, massive and non-volatile rock. The rock matrix consisted mainly of quartz, feldspar, predominantly mesperite, and a small amount of alkali amphiboles. Minerals from the epidote group, as well as hematite and goethite, formed secondary phases.

Quartz crystals in thin section. The edges of the crystals were found to be sharp as they were often partially overgrown with smaller feldspar crystals. In contact with alkaline amphiboles, some quartz crystals had an oval shape.

quartz

Quartz is a mineral composed of silicon and oxygen atoms in a continuous structure of SiO4 silicon-oxygen tetrahedra, where each oxygen is divided between two tetrahedra, giving the general chemical formula SiO2. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust after feldspar.

There are many different varieties of quartz, and others are semi-precious stones. Since ancient times, varieties of quartz have been the most widely used minerals for jewelry and hardstone carving, especially in Eurasia.

Feldspar

Feldspar is a group of tectosilicate rock-forming minerals that make up about 41% of the mass of the Earth's continental crust.

Feldspar crystallizes from magma as veinlets in both intrusive and continuous igneous rocks and also occurs in many types of metamorphic rocks. A rock composed almost entirely of calcareous plagioclase is known as anorthosite. Feldspar is also found in many types of sedimentary rocks.

This group of minerals consists of tectosilicane. The compositions of the main elements in ordinary feldspars can be expressed in three finite elements:

- potassium feldspar

- albital tip

- anorthite mount
