Baroque pearls

Pearl jewelry has been made for hundreds of years. The stone is considered a symbol of prestige, wealth and luxury. Many royals prefer exclusively pearl products, and jewelers simply love working with pearls, as they, in fact, do not need to be processed. Classical products are those in which the stone has a round or oval shape. But few people know that there are several varieties of pearls. So one of them includes baroque pearls, which is also called baroque.

What kind of education is this and what features of it you will learn in this article.

Baroque pearls - what is it?

Baroque pearls

First you need to find out what the word "baroque" means. Translated from German and French, this is something bizarre, imperfect and asymmetrical. As a rule, this is the main feature of baroque pearls.

This is a dense and hard formation, which, like other species, is formed inside the shell of a mollusk. But the main distinguishing feature of the stone is its shape. She's far from perfect. These are intricate and uneven pearls, among which one can hardly find identical ones in appearance.

A stone of this variety can be of the following origin:

  • river;
  • nautical;
  • cultured.

What does it mean? To understand, you need to understand how pearls are formed in general.

So, pearls are a formation that is “born” inside a mollusk. And it does not matter at all where he lives - in fresh water or sea. When the shell flaps open, various foreign bodies get inside the oyster. It can be small fish, sand, fragments of other shells, a small parasite or a small pebble. Such an invasion is regarded by the mollusk as a danger. In an attempt to protect himself and escape from death, he envelops the "stranger" with a protective shell, which in the future is called pearls. Also, various processes take place inside the shell, as a result of which this “pouch” with a foreign body is covered with layers of mother-of-pearl. This is how the pearl is formed. Thanks to this coating, all irregularities are smoothed out, the roughness disappears and an amazing stone is born.

But why can pearls be in such a bizarre shape as baroque? The fact is that the main condition for creating a perfectly even surface of a stone is that it cannot come into contact with the walls of the shell, that is, with the valves, and the process of its creation must take place exclusively in the mantle of the mollusk. Such a form as in the Baroque is obtained for various reasons:

  • attachment to the wall, rather than getting inside the mantle;
  • the presence of other foreign objects inside the mollusk;
  • deformation of the oyster due to natural phenomena.

This is how a unique pearl is formed. In some cases, its cost is much higher than the cost of even perfectly even stones. The final price depends on many conditions:

  • the size;
  • the presence of defects;
  • place of extraction;
  • shade;
  • shine;
  • strength.

To date, the most valuable baroque pearls are mined in the waters surrounding Tahiti. But sometimes it takes more than one year for jewelers to create a harmonious piece of bizarre shapes, the stones of which corresponded not only in size, but also in shade.
