Baphomet

Baphomet is an anthropomorphic entity associated with medieval Christianity and dissent, that is, the recognition of dogmas that are incompatible with the dogmas of a given religion. The figure of Baphomet first appeared at the trial of the extermination of the Templars in the early 14th century. It was he who allegedly led them to heresy.

Witnesses gave many descriptions, but the appearance of Baphomet as we know it today owes to the French author of occult books Eliphas Levi.

Levi in ​​the middle of the nineteenth century undertook to draw Baphomet. In doing so, he distorted his legendary appearance. He entered into his image opposite elements designed to symbolize balance : half-human, half-animal, man - woman, good - anger, naivety, etc. 

The meaning of the name Baphomet is explained by a combination of 2 Greek words, an approximate translation of which is baptism with wisdom . The Church of Satan has adopted the Seal of Baphomet as its official insignia.
