Sleipnir

Sleipnir “This is a legendary horse belonging to Odin, the father god of the Scandinavian pantheon of deities. The physical thing that distinguishes Sleipnir from other horses is that he has eight legs. Sleipnir transports Odin between the world of the gods and the world of matter. The eight legs symbolize the direction of the compass and the horse's ability to travel through land, air, water, and even hell.

It is possible that 4 pairs of Sleipnir's legs weresymbolic terms for the eight spokes of the sun wheel and they refer to the earlier form of Odin as the sun god. Sleipnir's ability to travel can also be related to sunlight.

In Scandinavian mythological tales, this eight-legged horse is a descendant of the god Loki and Svaldifari. Svaldifar was the horse of a giant who took on the task of rebuilding the walls of Asgard in one winter.
