The symbol of Ament in ancient Egyptian culture personifies the land of the dead (earthly world). Initially, Amenta was used as a symbol of the horizon on which the sunset sets. Over time, it was used to refer to the western bank of the Nile, which was also the place where the Egyptians buried their dead. It is believed that it is for this reason that the amenta eventually became the symbol of the Underworld.
