After the Olympian gods defeated the titans and threw them from the sky, Gaia - Mother Earth - took her last chance and summoned Typhon, the most terrible monster the world has ever seen. His thighs were huge snakes, and when he hovered, his wings obscured the sun. He had a hundred dragon heads, and fire poured from each of his eyes. Sometimes the monster spoke in a soft voice understandable to the gods, but sometimes it roared like a bull or a lion, or hissed like a snake. The frightened Olympians fled, and Eros and Aphrodite turned into fish and disappeared into the sea. In order not to get lost in the dark waters of the Euphrates (according to other versions - in the Nile), they were connected with a rope. In another version of the legend, two fish swam and rescued Aphrodite and Eros by taking them on their backs.
