Protect Your Lips This Summer With 3 Simple Tips

Anyone who has ever experienced tanned lips I can testify that this is not a fun time. Like the rest of your body, your lips need sunscreen too. Often, lip care is an afterthought in our skin care, but since the lips tend to bear the brunt seasonal changes they need extra attention to stay healthy. Here we share tips to help Keep your lips moisturized and protected throughout the season.

Weekly

Like the rest of your skin, lips can collect dead skin cells and skin residue. Exfoliate them weekly with a lip scrub. Kopari Exfoliating Lip Scrub It contains volcanic sand to help remove dead skin cells and pure coconut oil to hydrate lips. After exfoliating, apply a layer of your favorite lip balm or lipstick.

Moisturize daily

Chapped lips are often associated with winter, but summer can be a problem. In fact, when lips are exposed to excess heat, UV rays, and moisture-sucking conditioners, they can feel less elastic. To prevent dry and chapped lips, moisturize your lips often with lip balms. We love Lancôme Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm because it contains acacia honey, beeswax and rosehip seed oil, which make lips softer, smoother and plumper. In addition, the lip balm contains proxylan, an ingredient that helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and vitamin E.

Protection with SPF

Lips lack melanin, making them more susceptible to sun damage caused by UV exposure. Be sure to grab a lip balm or lipstick with an SPF of at least 15. One of our favorites: Kiehl's Butterstick Lip Treatment SPF 30. It contains coconut oil and lemon oil to hydrate, protect and soothe dry lips, plus five shades that give your lips a touch of vibrant color. Remember to reapply at least every two hours for optimal protection.
