I tried the L'Oréal Revitalift Cicacream cream - here's what happened

There are so many anti-aging products in a market that moves across pharmacy aisle could be a problem. Between sera, retinols and moisturizers, figuring out which one integrates best into your daily life can be overwhelming. That's why when L'Oréal Paris gave us Revitalift Anti-Aging Cicacream Pro-Retinol & Centella Asiatica Moisturizing Face Cream for the purposes of this review, we couldn't wait to try it out. Ahead, find everything you need to know about cica cream and read our anti-aging product review.

What is Cica cream?

Cica cream is popping up everywhere in the skin care industry, so to get more information we spoke to Dr. Rocio Rivera, Head of Science Communications at L'Oréal Paris. Essentially, cyca cream is an anti-aging moisturizer that helps repair the skin barrier and fight the signs of aging, says Rivera. She explains that the main ingredient in cyca creams, centella asiatica (also known as tiger grass) has soothing and moisturizing properties, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin. “Any formula that includes centella asiatica or tigergrass can help restore the skin's barrier function,” says Rivera. A healthy skin barrier is more effective in fighting the signs of aging. However, disruption of the skin barrier can be triggered by environmental aggressors and cause dryness and irritation, she adds.

What is included in Cica cream?

Company L'Oréal Revitalift Anti-Aging Cicacream Pro-Retinol & Centella Asiatica Moisturizing Face Cream has a multipurpose formula. Not only does it contain Centella asiatica, but it also contains powerful pro-retinol, a wrinkle-fighting ingredient. When combined, the cream works to both correct pre-existing signs of aging and counteract new ones, according to Rivera. Centella asiatica helps hydrate the skin and restore the protective barrier, while proretinol strengthens the skin and prevents the formation of wrinkles. The formula is also fragrance, paraben and alcohol free.

My review

My skin definitely gets drier, especially in winter, so I was excited to start using this cyca cream in my routine. After washing my face, I applied a small amount of a coin-sized amount to my hands. Initially, the formula seemed quite creamy, but once I applied it to my face, it spread well and became light, non-greasy. I immediately felt a moisturizing and soothing effect. After applying, areas that initially felt tight and dry on my skin (especially around the nose and mouth) became mobile and elastic.

I used the cream morning and evening for two weeks and definitely noticed a change in overall skin tone and texture. My flaking is almost gone, and although I still don't have wrinkles, I have noticed that my complexion is plumper and more elastic, especially around my eyes.
