I bathed in red wine and this is what happened to my skin

Frankly, I'm not one of those who refuses a glass or two of wine at dinner. I'm also not one to turn down the opportunity to take part in an unorthodox cosmetic experiment. So when I had the opportunity to bathe in red wine and report on its effect on my skin, if any, I would not refuse. I was so excited to dive in, in fact, I played it all out in my head beforehand. I dipped my hair into a gorgeous raspberry bath, sighed in relief, and sipped a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon (just in case, of course). Besides, what's the worst that can happen? Bath with stains? I could live with this, I thought to myself.

When I told my family about the homework, their first reaction was not to care about my skin, but about my wallet. "Do you know how many bottles of wine you need to buy to fill a bath?" they asked me. To be honest, I didn't know. But now I do - 15 bottles. And that includes some water to dilute the mixture. Traditional wine therapy involves grape seeds, skins and stems in a bath, and a few massage jets, so needless to say, my bath filled with red wine and water was against the norm. (Of course, I'm a rebel.) But I wasn't going to invest in a new jet bath, so I hoped the intended result—smooth and glowing skin, better circulation, etc.—would be the same. I know that wine contains the antioxidant resveratrol, so I was very curious to see how swimming in it would turn out. Let's just say things didn't go as planned.

What I thought was the most extravagant ten-minute bath of my life turned out to be anything but luxurious. By the second minute, my whole body began to tingle very unpleasantly. Another two minutes went by and my skin started itching like crazy. I felt like the moisture was being sucked out. (No, I wasn't drunk.) At the seven-minute mark, I was ready to go. But I don't give up, so I lasted all 10. When I got up, my skin was incredibly clammy, dry, and irritated, basically the opposite of glowing. Bummer! Luckily, the bad side effects didn't last long. After a quick rinse with plain water and a handful of moisturizer, I started to feel like my old self again. Disappointed, sure, but not defeated. Moral of the story: I will now enjoy the beauty of red wine from a glass, thank you very much.
