Calm Your Senses: DIY Lavender Essential Oil Bath

No matter how high our hopes for a calm summer, the season often seems to be the busiest of all. Between long nights, weekend plans, and endless work deadlines and family responsibilities, summer can be hectic. One of our favorite ways to unwind is with a little home spa treatment, and what home spa day would be complete without a relaxing bath?

Using Epsom salt and baking soda, known for their detoxifying properties, a little coconut oil - because of its moisturizing ability- and a few drops of relaxing lavender essential oil, this DIY bath tub is just what your skin needs to de-stress and release stress. We love lavender oil for its ability to relax the mind. According to the Mayo Clinic, using an essential oil for aromatherapy can stimulate "olfactory receptors in the nose, which then send messages through the nervous system to the limbic system, the part of the brain that controls emotions." In addition, a bath can help soothe the skin.

Here's what you need:

  • 1 glass of Epsom salt
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 6-10 drops of lavender essential oil
  • ¼ cup coconut oil, melted

Here is what you will do:

  1. Start by taking a warm bath.
  2. Add Epsom salt and baking soda while the water is running to melt the salts before you go in.
  3. Add melted coconut oil and drops of lavender essential oil to the mixture.
  4. Let yourself be immersed in all the relaxing perfection for up to 30 minutes.
