Supermodel Skin Care: How a Celebrity Beautician Prepares Model Skin for the Runway

With a client list that reads like the who's who of Hollywood, it's well known that Mzia Shiman is one of the best celebrity beauticians in the business. Combining over 25 years of experience with traditional practices and the latest technology, she has pampered and prepped the faces of some of the industry's top models ahead of some of her top shows and events. So it's no surprise that when she reveals her skin care secrets, we take notes! Recently, Szyman, who is an ambassador for aromatherapy skincare line Decleor, prepped the skin of a major supermodel for a highly anticipated (and televised!) show, and we were lucky enough to learn a few of her tricks. Golden Rule

In the past, Shiman has taught us about the importance of taking care of your skin with regular facials. “Facials are not just for those who deal with acne or other skin problems. Getting rid of impurities is necessary for everyone, ”she explained. "It's very important to do facials on a regular basis, ideally at least once a month."

While supermodels and celebrities may have the time (and budget) to get a monthly facial, for many of us, it's just not in the plan. This is where expert skin care tips at home come in handy! Shiman's top tip? Use moisturizers, serums, and other products that have been formulated for your particular skin type, and be sure to change them up as the seasons (and your skincare needs) change.

Daily (and night!) skin care worthy of models

When it comes to daily skincare, Szyman emphasizes the importance of hydration! “You should moisturize your skin after every use of cleanser and toner, every morning and evening, or as needed,” she says. In the evening, replace your daytime moisturizer with a night cream. She is partial to Decléor night serums and creams. “They are made with some of the finest ingredients and are available for all skin types,” she says.

“Warm some night cream in your hands,” Szyman says. “Apply it to your face and neck in gentle upward strokes. If you're pairing a night cream with a serum, be sure to apply the serum first."

Kiss your swollen eyes goodbye!

Due to their busy schedules and late nights, models and celebrities often experience the dreaded puffy eyes more than the average girl. Naturally, Shiman has a piece of advice to get rid of those plump peepers in a pinch! “Applying a chilled cucumber slice to your eyes for a few minutes can help reduce puffiness,” she shares. "This homemade trick helps hydrate the eye area and make your eyes appear brighter and fresher."

Model Mask

Even if you can't afford a coveted spot on Shiman's customer list, you can still take care of your skin just like the Hollywood elites do! Szyman's self-proclaimed "special favorite" is actually available online! Decleor's Aurabsolu Instant Glow Hydrogel Mask (MSRP $20) is a 10-minute mask that Szyman uses at the end of every facial that you can use from the comfort of your home! “I use them at the end of treatments to keep my skin looking radiant, hydrated and relaxed. For these reasons, I love giving each model a mask so they can get out of my room!” She recommends using a mask like the Aurabsolu mask at least once a week to keep your skin looking its best!
