The link between skin care and self-care

Think about your daily skin care. You (hopefully) start with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities from your skin, then follow up with a generous dose of a soothing and nourishing moisturizer. There are probably a few more steps, including applying serum, essence, and SPF. In addition to the positive effect that your targeted skin care routine can have on the appearance of your body's largest organ, there is a very important aspect of self-care in this daily ritual. To learn more about the relationship between skin care and self-care, we reached out to Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, SkinCeuticals Representative and Skincare.com Consultant Dr. John Burroughs.

HOW SKIN CARE IS SELF CARE

We all lead busy lives. Between caring for family members, meeting the demands of your 9 to 5 workday, keeping up with social life, and/or school responsibilities, it can be hard to dedicate "me" time when you're relaxing without being distracted by your busy schedule. But the truth is that if you spend time during the day - morning and evening - on skin care, you are also engaging in soothing and soothing activities that can also be considered self-care, be it a gentle massage. eye cream or tilt your head back and lift your legs while the sheet mask wraps around the contours of your face. The goal may be to improve the appearance of your skin, but there's no denying that skincare can be relaxing and meditative if you let it be. “When we feel better about our skin, we feel better about ourselves,” says Dr. Burroughs. “When we meet and talk with other people, the first thing they notice is the skin of our face and eyes. If there are areas of puffiness, discoloration, baggy, wrinkles, or poor shine, it can affect how we feel about ourselves.”

According to Burroughs, daily skin care can make you feel good (and your skin), which can lead to happiness in other areas of your life. “Smiling has been proven to make you feel better, so I think that anything that helps us smile more is not only good for our mental well-being, but also helps us be more attractive and welcoming to others.” adds Dr. Burroughs. “Any of us can suffer from acne flare-ups from time to time or be tired and have excessive eye bags, but being able to address these issues with consistent skin care can help us look our best all the time, or as much as possible. ”

HOW TO TAKE SKIN CARE AS YOUR CARE

Taking care of yourself can mean different things to each person, but the main goal is to feel good, happy, and at peace. For many, a daily skincare routine—whether it's 10 steps or 3 steps—can help reduce daily stress as it's a chance to take a break. You don't even need to be a skin care enthusiast to take care of yourself in your daily life if you take time for yourself to unplug from stressors and focus on yourself. Keep in mind that taking care of yourself doesn't necessarily mean spending money on expensive skin care products or devices. The real benefit you can get is not only in the products you use, but also in the time you put into it. However, there are certain skincare products that can help you achieve a truly relaxing, head-to-toe spa-worthy experience. Here we share some of our favorite products- from L'Oréal's portfolio of brands - to help you look good and feel good.
