Now more than ever it matters include moments of self-care into your daily routine to promote a more positive mental state. So what a better way to do this than through skin care? As we adjust to our new social distancing norms, many of us at Skincare.com have discovered specific self-care tips to help us stay zen during these uncertain times. Check out what they are, go ahead.

Update your skin care

“After two weeks of social distancing and a total skincare hiatus due to anxiety and low energy levels, I recently decided to rebuild my skincare regimen with a complete overhaul. While I usually prefer to keep things simple in the morning, I have found that this is the best time to test and add new products to my line because I actually have time to indulge myself. So every day when I wake up, I immediately shower and indulge in a fairly extensive routine filled with new serums, rich moisturizers, and even some masks. I noticed that it helped change my attitude, giving me a boost of energy and self-confidence for the whole day. It also gives me a moment where I can completely turn my mind off everything related to COVID-19 and be present while doing something good for my skin.” —

Using face creams as body lotions

A few weeks ago I ran out of my regular body lotion. Since I was staying at home and trying not to go to the store, I had to get creative. As a beauty editor, one of the gigantic perks of working is being able to test about a million facial moisturizers, so I have more than a couple on my shelves. I noticed a particularly large jar of cream that didn't suit my skin type and applied it on a whim. It was an absolutely heavenly experience. The rich texture was a delicious treat and it took me a little more rubbing than usual, giving me a few extra minutes to cool down. This has become my new after-shower ritual and a great way to avoid waste! —

Applying cooling eye gels on a regular basis

“Obviously this is a very worrying time and unfortunately waiting it out is the only option we have. To calm down and pamper my skin a little, I use cooling eye gels almost every day to de-puff and soothe my face. I like to wear them in the middle of the morning when I am completely busy working from home. I have found that they give me a feeling to focus on rather than making my mind wander and wobble. Milk eye patches with cooling water for makeup I like to apply at this time most of all because they give a long-lasting effect of icy cold, helping to keep the mind and body calm. —

Try self tanning

“Self-tanning scares me. The fear that someone would notice the spots on my ankle, the sharp line where my wrist meets my arm, or that it would look too orange kept self-tanners off my skincare shelf for years. But given that I've been isolating myself at home for the past two weeks, I knew there was no better time to experiment. Moreover, a tan would make me feel good and give me the opportunity to exercise - a win-win. I used Miami Gorgeous La Playa Glow self-tanning mousse. It applies without streaks, absolutely even and never looks orange. I had no problems with the transfer, and the best part is that there is no smell. It contains argan oil, vitamins A, C and D, coconut oil and jojoba oil, so it nourishes my skin and makes it soft. Trust me, a little self-tanning can really up your grooming game.” —

The use of washable masks

“Before social distancing, washable masks didn’t bother me. I have a whole stack of them at home, but when faced with a choice between one of them and a sheet mask, I choose the latter every time - the seemingly faster and easier option. But now that I've got more time, I've started to apply cleansing and moisturizing wash-off masks more often. I find the process of applying one evenly to my face, relaxing with it, and then carefully rinsing off each piece of it more like a pampering, spa experience than a tiring experience. Now that I've dealt with some stress acne, one formula that I really like is L'Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Facial Mask. It helps clear and soothe my skin without drying it out, plus it's a soothing shade of blue that's great to wear in video chats with friends." —

Try facial steam

“I was given an Amazon facial steamer as a gift during the holidays and I kept thinking to myself, ‘If only I had more time to use it. Insert my current work from home situation and now I'm counting the hours until I can take my 20 minute break to calm down! The best thing about the steamer is that you can't multitask. It requires 20 uninterrupted minutes of pure bliss, and I found myself using that time to pray, think, and meditate - a bonus combination of body and mind, if you ask me." —

Calm down with face rotation

“I don’t usually use tools in my skincare routine, but since I get stuck inside every day, I use a facial roller to pamper myself at the end of the day. It's such a small ritual that only adds a couple of minutes to my routine, but it's seriously relaxing when I give myself at least a few extra minutes. The IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Citrine Face & Neck Roller was the salvation. I combine it with mine Kiehl's Favorite Soothing Facial Oiland it's the perfect way to end my nightly routine and unwind after the day. A plus, citrine should help with clarity and concentration, so that's a big plus in my book. I put a few drops of oil directly on my face and roll it into my skin in an upward motion. I start at the forehead and work down to the décolletage for full coverage." —
