Step 1: Prepare your skin

To achieve a natural tan without streaks, you need to make sure that you prepare your skin respectively. The first step in preparing the skin for an airbrush tan is exfoliation. Exfoliation can help remove dry, dead skin cells and leave your skin soft, smooth, and ready for an even tan.

You can exfoliate the skin on your body in a number of ways, but most commonly we use a sugar (or salt) body scrub or dry clean. While body scrubs are typically used in the shower, dry brushing requires the use of a natural bristle brush to gently exfoliate the skin while it is dry to remove any dead skin cells.

After you exfoliate your skin, you'll want to take a shower for a quick rinse. Now is the time to shave your legs, as a shave tan can remove some of the tanning formula and result in a lighter bronze. Once you've flushed out, it's time for step two.

Step 2: Hydrate!

When it comes to applying any type of self tanner, hydration is key. We recommend moisturizing every inch of your body with a lightweight body lotion like L'Oréal's Vichy Ideal Body Serum-Milk., then use something heavier (such as butter or body butter) on drier, rougher areas of the body. Think: your knees, elbows, knuckles, ankles, etc. This way, when it comes time for self-tanning, the spray tan won't stick to the dry areas in those areas, leading to streaks and uneven results.

Step 3: Apply self-tanner at home

Now that your skin is primed and ready for your airbrush tan, it's time to apply. For applying Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Salon Airbrushremove the cap and hold the bottle at arm's length from your body. Then spray all over the body in one even layer. Do not rub the formula into your body. Once you've applied an even layer, allow the formula to dry completely before wearing again.

Step 4: Keep the fake tan from fading

After you've sprayed your body with tanning spray, you need to make sure you keep your body as hydrated as possible. This will help the spray tan stay intact and also allow it to fade more naturally rather than looking very patchy and discolored. After about three or four days, pamper your body with a gentle exfoliation and then apply another layer of spray to prolong the life of your airbrushed tan. Just remember to prep your skin with a moisturizer first.
