Get the most out of your makeup blender with these 6 hacks

Trick #1: Mix foundation and primer

It's no secret that makeup sponges work well when they're damp. In fact, this is how most brands recommend using them! The reason is that a wet makeup sponge is less rough on the skin and less likely to absorb foundation, concealer, etc., which can be wasted. But if you want your makeup sponge to absorb even less product, here's a great hack: apply primer directly to the blender. The primer will mix with your foundation during the application process. Does makeup absorb less and is easier to apply? We see this as a double win.

Trick number 2: create an ombre on your nails

If you find that your makeup sponge is nearing the end of its life, you can use it one last time. Use an old makeup sponge to create a professional manicure without spending too much. All you need to do? Apply different shades of your favorite nail polish to the blender and then quickly dab the colors onto your nails for a gorgeous cascade of colors.

Pro tip: It will be easier to apply if you cut off part of the makeup blender so that the sponge has a square shape.

Trick #3: Apply Skin Care Products

Makeup sponges can be used for more than just applying makeup and foundation. They are also a great way to easily apply serums or liquid skin care products to the skin. Instead of applying the serum with your hands, you can use a beauty sponge. Need a serum? Check out our reviews of the best face serums here!

Trick #4: Moisturizing Dry Patches

We've all been there: your foundation looks flawless except for that annoying dry patch on your forehead. Luckily, there is a solution for these flakes, and all you need is a makeup sponge and your favorite hydrating serum. Simply dip the tip of your makeup blender into your serum or oil, lightly press it against the flaky area, and voila!

Trick #5: Apply self-tanner easily (and no mess!)

The process of getting an even self tan can be difficult, especially when you have to rely on your fingers. But fear not, a makeup sponge can come in handy here. Simply apply the self-tanning formula all over your body with a makeup sponge in the same way you apply foundation to your face. You can apply self-tanner evenly without fiddling with your hands. Now it all comes down to which self-tanner you choose to make your skin golden. Do not worry! We've put together a complete self tanning guide right here!

Trick #6: Take advantage of form

Makeup sponges come in different shapes for a reason, and you have to use every nook and cranny! Most often they have a pointed top, rounded sides and a flatter bottom. The rounded sides should be used to apply foundation all over the face. The pointed tip is great for hiding hard-to-reach areas, such as under the eyes. A flat bottom can help with facial contouring and skin bronzing.
