A complete set of cosmetics for travel on vacation

Whether you're heading to the sunny Caribbean or the fierce north, keep reading to find out what you can't leave home without. Traveling light but still looking your best? God bless him!

FOR AIRCRAFT

One of the biggest disadvantages of air travel, from a skin perspective, is dry cabin air. The low levels of humidity — about 20 percent — in airplanes are less than half the level that the skin feels comfortable (and probably used to). You can guess what this lack of moisture could mean for the largest organ in your body. Yup, dry and dull skin! To help combat the harsh drying effect that can occur on your skin at a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet, your airplane makeup bag should primarily consist of moisturizers, from moisturizers to lip balm. Ahead, we share a checklist of the essentials you should pack in your carry-on to combat dry skin, as well as our product recommendations for what to buy (in case you're stuck). Oh, and don't worry, we've triple checked that they're TSA approved.

  • Facial mist: For a quick in-flight mood boost, few products work as well as a facial spray. Vichy Thermal Spa Water 50G (make sure you get your travel size 50G!) The formula is enriched with 15 rare minerals and antioxidants from French volcanoes and can help soothe and firm the skin.
  • Moisturizing cream: Another good (and pretty obvious!) weapon against cabin dryness is a hydrating, heavy duty facial moisturizer that locks in moisture. Apply La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche whenever your skin starts to feel tight and dry. Plus, use it daily throughout your trip (and always after cleansing) to keep your skin hydrated and nourished all the time!
  • Sheet mask: Your seatmate might wake up in a fright to see you looking like a prop from a horror movie, but we think it's worth bringing a sheet mask on board to further hydrate your skin. Try Lancôme Génifique Youth Activating Second Skin Mask. The mask adheres to the contours of the face, almost like a second skin, providing intense hydration and spa treatment. Keep it on for 20 minutes, gently massage excess product into skin and enjoy the benefits!
  • Lip balm: Think your lips are immune to drying out in an airplane cabin? Think again. Since your delicate sponge does not contain sebaceous glands, this is probably one of the first areas of skin to dry out and crack. No thanks! Keep your favorite lip balm, ointment, emollient, or jelly in your purse and apply liberally as needed. Kiehl's #1 Lip Balm is a great choice as it contains nourishing oils and vitamins.
  • SPF: Sunscreen should be on every packing slip, whether your destination is damp and sun-drenched. All skin needs a daily broad spectrum SPF to protect it from UV rays. Keep in mind that you are closer to the sun in the air, which means that UV rays, which are more intense at higher altitudes, can enter through windows, and prolonged exposure can damage your skin if not protected. Always apply a broad spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, such as Vichy Idéal Capital Soleil SPF 50, before boarding and reapply on board if it is a long-haul flight or more than two hours.

FOR HOTEL

Most hotels offer basic skin care products - like bar soap, body lotion, etc. - that you can rely on if you're short on space or feeling daring. The reason we do not do this is because we cannot guarantee that the products provided by the hotel are suitable for our skin. That's why we'll always carry our trusted arsenal of goodies with us, even if we have to leave a few jeans behind to make room. Keep scrolling to discover beauty products that will always be in our suitcases, whether for a hotel or something else!

  • Pomade: We strongly believe that lipstick brings together an outfit, so of course we will never leave it unattended. In addition to our mascara, foundation, blush, bronzer...you get the idea...we'll always bring lipstick with us. In honor of the holidays, why not use a bold, flirty red hue? It will surely make you stand out in all the family photos you are sure to take. Try NYX Professional Makeup Velvet Matte Lipstick in Blood Love.
  • Makeup remover: All that makeup has to come off somehow, right? (No, bar soap won't work.) Don't leave the house without a cleanser/make-up remover, whether it's micellar water or cleansing wipes. One of our favorite travel micellar water formulas is La Roche-Posay. Micellar water La Roche-Posay (100 ml) cleanses the skin of dirt, oil, makeup and even impurities without much friction or the need to rinse!
  • Cleansing brush: For deeper cleaning than your hands, take a cleaning brush, such as Mia FIT by Clarisonic. Combined with your favorite cleanser, the brush can help remove impurities, dirt, makeup and residue. Its compact and lightweight design is ideal for travel to ensure radiant and smooth skin on the go.

Have a good trip!
