Move Over, Double Cleanse: Why Triple Cleanse Is Worth the Effort

Not so long ago we talked with you about the benefits of double cleansing. This process involves cleansing the skin not once, but twice: first with an oil-based cleanser and then with a water-based cleanser. The main reason for double cleansing is to achieve adequate skin cleansing. Why is it so important? Well, because removing dirt and other surface contaminants can help prevent blemishes and other pore-related problems.

Another attraction of double cleansing is that it doesn't put all of your eggs in one basket. In other words, you don't rely on just one cleanser to completely cleanse your skin - you rely on several. Speaking of several cleansers, it seems like this K-Beauty cleansing trend has taken it even further. Now people talk about cleansing the skin with three cleansers. Triple cleansing, as it's called, takes a little more time and effort, but skincare fans say it's worth it. Sound crazy to you? Keep reading. Below, we'll tell you everything you need to know about the triple cleansing trend that's here to stay.

What is triple cleansing?

In short, a triple cleanse is a cleansing routine that includes three steps. The idea is simple and straightforward: you cleanse your skin three times before you start your usual nightly ritual with serums, creams and masks. Thoroughly cleansing your skin of impurities, dirt, and excess sebum can help reduce the chance of breakouts or enlarged pores, paving the way for a brighter, healthier complexion over time.

What are the steps for a triple cleanse?

There are several options for triple cleansing, including the order in which cleansers are applied and the specific formulas you use. Here is an example of a triple cleansing procedure.

Triple Cleansing Step One: Use Cleansing Pad

First of all, wipe your face with a tissue or tissue paper to remove makeup and impurities. Pay special attention to the contour of the eyes and neck. If your makeup is waterproof, choose a wipe that is specially designed to remove waterproof makeup. This can help prevent sudden tugging and pulling of the skin.

Try: If you have oily skin, try La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Cleansing Wipes.. Formulated with LHA, Zinc Pidolate and La Roche-Posay Thermal Water, these wipes remove excess sebum, dirt and impurities, leaving skin clean, hydrated and soft.

Triple Cleansing Step Two: Use an oil-based cleanser

Then take an oil-based cleanser. The cleansing oil works to remove any oil-based impurities left on the surface of your skin. Massage your skin and rinse with warm water.

Try: Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil emulsifies with water for gentle yet effective cleansing. Use this to remove makeup and impurities without drying out your skin.

Triple Cleansing Step Three: Use a Water-Based Cleanser

Apply micellar water or cleansing foam to damp face to remove unwanted water-based impurities. Rinse and dry.

Try: Kiehl's Herbal Infused Micellar Cleansing Water is a gentle micellar water that captures and removes any stubborn dirt, impurities and makeup.

Who can benefit from triple cleansing?

As with everything related to skin care, there is no universal rule for all skin types. Cleansing twice a day, morning and evening, is a general recommendation for all skin types. Some skin types may benefit from cleansing less, while others may benefit from more frequent cleansing. If you have dry or sensitive skin, triple cleansing may not be for you. Cleansing the skin can remove some of the natural oils, resulting in excessive dryness. Cleansing three times in a row can also irritate sensitive skin.
