Autumn and winter evening care for oily skin

Whatever your skin typeWinter is the season when most of us need to adjust our skincare routine to cope with changing temperatures and outside conditions (read: snow and high winds). if you have oily skin, you may be concerned that the rich, the heavy emollient creams and moisturizers can make your skin more oily. Well, we're here to let you know that maintaining hydration and skin care doesn't have to come at the cost of making your skin look oily. For expert advice on nighttime care for oily skin in the fall and winter, our editors comment below.

STEP 1: Use a cleanser

Regardless of the season, you need to use a cleanser that penetrates deep into the skin and removes excess sebum, dirt and other impurities, which is especially important if you have oily skin. If acne is also a concern, CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser this is a great option because it not only dissolves pore-clogging dirt from the skin, but it also helps clear any existing breakouts with benzoyl peroxide. The best part? This foaming cleanser contains hyaluronic acid to help skin retain moisture and niacinamide to soothe skin.

STEP 2: Exfoliate

Using a toner after cleansing is a great way to remove pore-clogging impurities, such as oil and dead skin cells, from the surface of your skin. For those with oily, acne-prone skin, toners (such as L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives Peeling Tonic with 5% Glycolic Acid.) We also love CeraVe Skin Renewing Overnight Exfoliator, an AHA serum with glycolic and lactic acid, which helps to speed up the renewal of skin surface cells and remove dead skin cells without causing irritation (read: peeling or redness). This non-comedogenic, multitasking, fragrance-free nighttime treatment also contains essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and licorice root to help maintain skin barrier hydration.

STEP 3: Add Moisture

Since harsh winter temperatures can wreak havoc on any type of skin, be sure to use a light moisturizer in gel or lotion form. To find an all-in-one moisturizer that feels weightless and doesn't clog pores, check out Garnier Hyalu-Aloe Super Hydrating 3 in 1 Hyaluronic Acid + Aloe Vera Serum Gel, which makes it easy to retain moisture and - yes, this can happen even on oily skin. Place a few drops of the clear gel in the palm of your hand and gently work it into your skin. It may feel sticky at first due to the concentration of powerful ingredients, but don't worry, the formula absorbs quickly into the skin. While applying oil to already oily skin sounds counterintuitive, the right oil can actually be beneficial for skin care, especially when it gets colder. If the skin is deprived of its natural oils, it will go into overproduction mode and produce more oil, causing a buildup that, you guessed it, can lead to acne. Thus, using a light non-comedogenic oil such as Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil.
