Think expired skincare and beauty products are the only thing you need to replace in your arsenal? Think again! Aside from old, used - not to mention smelly - beauty products, which are very disgusting, they can get in the way of clear, healthy skin - and no one has time for that. We recently sat down with Board Certified Dermatologist, Cosmetic Surgeon and Skincare.com Consultant Michael Kaminer, MD, to find out how long you can go before it's time to replace (or at least clean) washcloths, sponges, dermarollers. , Clarisonic tips and more.

When to Clean or Replace the Clarisonic Sonic Cleansing Head

Not sure if you should replace your Clarisonic brush head? The manufacturer recommends changing the nozzle every three months. The good news is that it is very easy to replace Clarisonic tips as the brand offers auto recharge plan this lets you choose how often you want a new brush delivered to your doorstep (it might even save you money!). It is also important to keep your brush heads clean and wash them weekly or every other week.

When to clean or replace your washcloth

If it's been a while since you last changed your washcloth - or worse, you've never changed it - you might consider buying yourself a new one...stat! According to Dr. Kaminer, it's time to say goodbye as soon as they start to discolor or smell. Of course, it all depends on how often you use the washcloth, but in order not to make a mistake in choosing a clean washcloth, make a note to yourself to change the washcloth every month. Be sure to wash your washcloth with soap and water after each use.

When to Clean or Replace Your Home Derma Roller

Think your homemade dermaroller will last forever? Think again! As with your shaving head, Dr. Kaminer suggests replacing the microneedle rollers as soon as they begin to dull. Be sure to rinse it under water after each use to clean it of debris or dirt.

When to clean or replace tweezers

Wondering when to replace your trusty tweezers - and if it's worth changing at all? According to Dr. Kaminer, if you take good care of your tweezers and clean them with rubbing alcohol after use, your tweezers will last a very long time and may never need to be replaced. If you find that your pair is fading and you find it difficult to pluck out those loose hairs, it may be time for a new one.

When to clean or replace body sponge

Don't know when to part with your body sponge? Dr. Kaminer suggests monitoring the color and stability of the sponge. When the color starts to change, or the sponge gets old or worn, it's time for a new one. Kaminer also suggests extending the life of your body sponge by running it in the dishwasher from time to time to clean it.

When to Clean or Replace Your Exfoliating Towel

If you are an exfoliating towel owner, we have great news. Instead of throwing away and replacing your towel after a couple of months, you can put it in the wash along with the rest of your bath towels to clean it. It won't last forever, but it will definitely increase its lifespan. Generally, we suggest replacing a towel when it starts to lose its exfoliating properties, becomes rusty, or both.

When to Clean or Replace Exfoliating Gloves

Similar to exfoliating towels, if you take good care of your exfoliating gloves, you should be able to use them as long as they don't wear out or lose their exfoliating properties. We like to rinse them thoroughly after each use and leave them to dry in a cool, dry place on top of a bath towel. When they need a deep clean, we toss them into a low speed wash and let them air dry.

When to clean or replace your makeup blending sponge

When it comes to cosmetic sponges, or any makeup application tools for that matter, you need to clean them once a week to ensure they last longer. However, blenders don't last forever. If you have had a beauty sponge for more than three months and use it regularly, you may want to replace it. The same goes for blenders, which look like they're spoiling, discolor even after washing, and can even cause breakouts.
