How to get moist skin in a dry climate: 10 easy tricks to try

While many of us are struggling with severe humidity this summer, others living in dry climates are experiencing a lack of moisture. Climates with a lack of moisture—whether seasonal or geographic—make it difficult to maintain a hydrated complexion…difficult, but not impossible! To get that dewy complexion, you just need to work a little. Below, we share ten tips to help you get moist skin in dry climates.

First, exfoliation

Dry, dehydrated skin is an unfortunate side effect of low-humidity climates and can often lead to a dull complexion and a buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. To help restore radiance, exfoliate weekly. into your regular skin care routine. Exfoliating from head to toe—whether mechanical with scrubs and brushes or chemical with alpha hydroxy acids—helps remove the buildup of dry, dead skin and prepares the skin to better absorb moisture from other skin care products.

Then moisturize

This may seem obvious, but moisturizer is the best defense against dry climates. Skipping this step, especially after cleansing and/or exfoliating your skin, can cause your skin to become duller over time, moving further and further away from the dewy complexion you're aiming for. Choose moisturizers that can benefit your specific skin type!

Drink

Dehydrated and wet never go hand in hand. To stay hydrated inside and out, keep a full bottle of water with you at all times. Not in simple H2O? Try one of our favorite fruit and herb water recipes.

High humidity

Whether you live in a dry climate or just work in a dry office, get ready to meet your new best friend. Humidifiers release water vapor to increase the humidity in the air, which the skin needs to retain moisture. Keep one in the bedroom or invest in a small portable one for your desk.

Protect yourself

Dermatologists basically agree that the most important step in any skin care routine — and the only one proven effective in combating sun damage — is sunscreen. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of 30 or more each day and avoid prolonged sun exposure, which can dry out your skin and keep it from looking dewy.

Layer on the mask

Apply a hydrating facial mask once a week between cleansing and moisturizing. Look for water-based formulas that contain hyaluronic acid, a powerful humectant that can attract and hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water!

face pencil

If it's within your budget, going to the spa once a month with a qualified esthetician can be extremely rewarding as it will help you get radiant and dewy skin.
