How to apply facial oil - you may be doing it wrong

Spray, stroke, rub, get wet, smear, press - how to apply skin care products endless. No wonder remember correctly way of using certain products, such as face oils. By now you should know that correct way to apply eye cream by applying a formula to your the area under the eyes ring finger. There is no "if", "and" or "but" in this. Facial oils, on the other hand, are a little tricky, but when used correctly, they can provide a radiant, natural glow that can rival any glass skin highlighter.

Some people tend to rub facial oils into their skin, while others swear by pressing them into it. To end the debate, we reached out to several skin care experts to learn how to apply facial oil like a pro.

The beauty of face oils and body oils is that you can apply them all over the place. "Place them anywhere you want extra moisture without a greasy residue," says David Lorcher, board certified dermatologist and CEO of Curology.

Press facial oils into skin

STEP 1: Start with a freshly cleansed face

A radiance-enhancing facial oil that blends seamlessly into any nighttime skincare routine. You want to start with freshly cleansed skin, free from make-up and any other surface contaminants.

STEP 2: Apply serums, treatments and moisturizer

Whether you're a skincare perfectionist and love to apply serums, treatments and moisturizers, or prefer a simple skincare routine, just remember that oils are always the last step.

STEP 3: Apply a few drops of facial oil to the palms of your hands.

"After application of my serums, I take a few drops of face oil in my palm and rub them together to warm up,” says Saime Demirovich, co-founder GLO Spa New York. “Then I run my hands over my face, but I never rub.” This helps prevent any unnecessary tugging or tugging on the skin that can cause premature wrinkles.

A little goes a long way when it comes to facial oils; you only need about two to three drops to cover your entire face, neck and decollete. “Face oil is a great way to lock in moisture,” explains Demirovich, which is why so many people swear to use it in the winter or on long flights.

"If you're happy with your moisturizer, there's no need to include facial oils in your daily skincare routine," says Dr. Lorcher. “However, if you have dry or sensitive skin, a coat of oil will help keep your skin moisturized and looking smooth. This layer of oil on the skin's surface slows down water loss."

Add a few drops of facial oil to your moisturizer.

For a subtle glow, try mixing your face oil with a moisturizer. To do this, apply moisturizer to the back of your hand and add two to three drops to the formula before blending it with your fingers and applying to your face as usual. We especially love this hack if you want to create a no-makeup look in summer or create a hydrating base for winter makeup. Just a few drops can really increase the glow factor. Be sure to extend the product application area to the neck and chest.

Mix face oil in your makeup

Facial oils are not just limited to skin care. They can also be incorporated into your makeup formulas to achieve the same dewy glow. Try mixing a few drops of your favorite face oil into a primer or liquid foundation. You can mix the two products on the back of your hand and blend with your fingertips, brush or sponge before applying. It's a quick and easy way to achieve a healthy glow.
