Dermatologist Sherine Idris talks about skin, sunscreen and Instagram

You may have found a dermatologist in New York. Dr. A.S. Sherine Idriss is not following anyone. Autodesk_new, where she hosts a series of her #PillowTalkDerm Instagram stories and breaks down the frightening scientific jargon behind some of the your favorite skin care products. We had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Idriss and talk about her passion for dermatology, motherhood, солнцезащитный крем and of course instagram.

How did you get started in dermatology? What was your first job in this field?

I applied to medical school at the age of 17 and entered a seven-year program right after graduation. I soon discovered that I love dermatology as it combines both aesthetic and medical aspects where patients want to see themselves get better quickly. My first job after my residency was dermatology in Long Island, followed by a job in New York where I really honed my skills.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days are anything but typical with two kids under the age of two. My morning always starts with a bang when a one year old child climbs into our bed. From there, I juggle, prep myself and my baby, and go through my usual skin care routine. My nanny arrives around eight to help with the kids and make sure I have two identical shoes that day! After kissing my babies, I go to work and see patients from nine to four. At work, it's go, go, go because my days are so condensed. When I am at home, I play with my daughter, bathe her and have dinner, and then put her to bed. After the kids are asleep, I answer interviews, hang out with my husband, get into bed and squeeze into Pillow Talk on Instagram Stories if I'm not too tired.

How has working in dermatology affected your life and what point in your career (to date) are you most proud of?

When I became a dermatologist, I realized that vanity is not just skin, but the mind-body connection is real. The better you look, the better you feel, within reason, and I think that gives people more confidence that they can fight the world and feel stronger. While my treatments are about appearance, I know that I am helping my patients on a deeper level, which is really motivating.

A career moment that I'm really proud of was meeting a young woman, an Iraq War veteran who had a very tough upbringing that made her skin affect her skin, making her look older than she actually was. deed. In anticipation of her wedding, I took her under my wing and treated her skin from A to Z. I started by treating active acne on her face and ended up adjusting her facial proportions to restore lost youth. Seeing her walking down the aisle not only brought tears to my eyes, but to the entire wedding party, because she has grown into who she really is, and not the shell of the person she was before. entered.

If you weren't a dermatologist, what would you be doing?

If I wasn't a dermatologist, I would probably be a plastic surgeon, but in the fantasy world, I would like to have a talent like singing.

What is your favorite skin care ingredient right now?

Considering I just had a baby and stopped breastfeeding, I am obsessed with the new discovery of retinols. I love Retinol Complex Serum 2% by Dr. Brandt

Tell us a little about your current skin care regimen.

My skincare routine changed while I was pregnant and now that I have a baby, I try to keep it simple. I always remove makeup, exfoliate, use a brightening serum, collagen booster, and moisturizer. Simplicity is relative!

What are the top three skincare products everyone should have in their arsenal/use every day?

Everyone Should Use a Glycolic Acid Exfoliator - I Like It Cane + Austin Miracle pads, SPF 30+ sunscreen such as SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Protection and a really good moisturizer.

What advice do you have for beginners and future dermatologists?

Becoming a dermatologist is a long road and very competitive, but if you really love it, no one should stand in your way. Never give up or lose focus on the end goal.

What does beauty and skincare mean to you?

I find that incorporating beauty and regular skin care into my daily routine helps me feel better. When people take care of their appearance on the outer level, it is a sign that they value themselves.
