Derm DMs: Is my body butter making me throw up?

Rich body lotions, like body oils, are pleasant to the touch and provide ultra-moisturizing properties. If you are prone to rashes on the body, however, they can also be clogs pores

According to Skincare.com Consulting Dermatologist, Dr. Hadley KingIf your body butter (or any body moisturizer for that matter) is comedogenic, meaning it contains ingredients that can clog pores, it can cause breakouts. Comedogenic ingredients commonly found in body moisturizers include coconut oil, palm oil, and soybean oil. "If the body acne you're experiencing seems to be due to the use of a comedogenic product, then that could be a factor," says Dr. King. "I would recommend stopping the use of a comedogenic product."

If you're experiencing acne on your body, she suggests including body washes containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in your routine. We love CeraVe SA shower gel for rough and uneven skin.

Once you've removed a comedogenic body care product from your line, replace it with a moisturizing, non-comedogenic one. Dr. King recommends looking for body oils that contain ingredients like glycerin and ceramides that won't clog pores. “Also look for formulas that absorb quickly and are not greasy,” she says. One rich body moisturizer that fits the bill is CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. For an oily non-comedogenic formula, try Carol's Daughter Macaroon Frappe Body Lotion
