How to Incorporate a Liquid Exfoliator into Your Daily Life

The key to using liquid exfoliators is to find the right frequency. While most of the steps in your skin care routine should be done once or twice a day, this isn't always the case with liquid exfoliation. Different skin types can tolerate different amounts of exfoliation, which can mean every day or just once a week. The type of liquid exfoliator you use can also affect how many times you use it in your daily life. Before you start using a liquid exfoliator, make sure you read up on how often you should use it and pay attention to what your skin can handle. If you are unsure, we recommend starting slowly and exfoliating more frequently.

STEP 1: Clean up beforehand

A liquid exfoliator is no substitute for a facial cleanser, even if it can help remove stubborn makeup and sebum. The first step in your skin care routine should always be a cleanser to create a fresh base for exfoliation.

STEP 2: Apply

How you use a liquid exfoliator depends on its form. If you stopped at astringent, toner or essence, moisten a cotton pad or reusable pad with the liquid and swipe it over your face. If you choose a serum or concentrate instead, place a few drops of the product in the palm of your hand and apply directly to the skin.

STEP 3: Monitor the humidity

No matter how gentle or non-drying your exfoliator may be, moisturizing is always essential. Let the liquid exfoliator soak in a little, then apply a layer favorite moisturizer.

STEP 4: Apply broad spectrum sunscreen

The acids often found in liquid exfoliators can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. While SPF is already a daily necessity, be sure to pay extra attention to sun protection if you regularly use a liquid exfoliator. This includes daily use of broad spectrum sunscreen, reapply at least every two hours and cover with protective clothing.
