5 summer tips for oily skin

Summer is on the horizon and will bring a lot of fun - trips to the beach, picnics and sun-drenched aurora, just to name a few that you've been patiently waiting for since winter. What can ruin all the fun? Oily, oily skin. Yes, hot weather can be brutal for everyone, but oily skin types definitely have issues. But with a few tweaks and a few additions to your skincare routine, you too can enjoy matte skin this summer. Below, we share five skin care tips to follow this summer if you have oily skin!

TIP #1: WASH YOUR FACE WITH A SOFT DETERGENT

Cleansing is necessary for everyone, regardless of the season and skin type. When it's warm, sweat can mix with dead skin cells, sunscreen, makeup, and natural oils on your face, which can lead to clogged pores and subsequent breakouts. Thus, it is very important to keep the surface of the skin clean with a mild cleanser. SkinCeuticals A foaming cleanser can help remove excess sebum, dirt, and impurities that can linger on the surface of the skin, leaving skin clean and fresh. Then apply your favorite lightweight moisturizing gel while skin is still slightly damp.

Editor's Note: While you're likely to sweat more during the hot summer months, especially after a harsh cold winter, it's important not to wash your skin excessively. This can actually deprive your skin of the oils it needs, which in turn can cause your sebaceous glands to produce even more oil to compensate for what is considered moisture loss. When in doubt, stick to the twice daily cleansing routine - morning and evening - or the one recommended by your dermatologist.

TIP #2: APPLY BROAD SPF 15 OR HIGHER

When looking for the perfect sunscreen (to be in your beauty arsenal at any time of the year, not just in summer) for oily skin, look for keywords such as non-comedogenic and non-greasy on the package. This will help ensure that the formula can help prevent excess shine and clogged pores. Need an entry? Vichy Ideal Capital Soleil SPF 45 is one of our favorites for year round sun protection. The formula is non-comedogenic, oil-free (double bonus!) and provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection with a dry-touch, non-greasy finish. If you're going out for long periods of time this summer, make sure you apply (and reapply) sunscreen at least every two hours, or as directed on the product label, to reduce your risk of sun damage. For the best protection from harmful UV rays, take extra precautions such as wearing protective clothing, seeking shade where possible, and avoiding peak hours of sunshine.

TIP #3: REPLACE FOUNDATION WITH BB CREAM

Oily skin types definitely shouldn't skimp on sunscreen before going out in the sun this summer, but cutting down on makeup that feels heavy on the skin is not a bad idea. Consider swapping out your foundation for a lighter formula that still offers coverage, such as a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer. If it has SPF in it, even better. Garnier 5-in-1 Skin Perfector BB Cream Oil-Free oil-free, so there is no excess fat, and lightweight, so the product will not feel (or look) like it has hardened on the skin. You'll get an even complexion that's radiant, hydrated, matte, and protected with SPF 20.

Editor's Note: While Garnier 5-in-1 Skin Perfector Oil-Free BB Cream has SPF 20, applying it in the morning before going out is not enough to adequately protect skin from harmful UV rays throughout the day. So don't ditch your Broad Spectrum daily sunscreen for a BB cream or tinted moisturizer.

TIP #4: EXFOLIATE DAILY

There is still no decision on how often to exfoliate the skin, but starting at least once a week and increasing the amount as tolerated is a good measure. Exfoliate with your favorite gentle scrub to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin that can mix with other impurities left on your skin, which can clog pores and make your skin look dull. Then apply a clay mask, for example Kiehl's Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Maskto help deep cleanse the pores they deserve. The unique formula can help purify the skin while minimizing the appearance of pores.

TIP #5: REMOVE (OIL)

Wetting sheets are indispensable for those who want to mattify their skin in a pinch. They're compact, easy to take on the go—throw them in your beach bag during the summer months—and absorb excess oil like a sponge when your skin, usually the T-zone, gets too shiny. . We love them because they leave a matte finish without residue (take that, wipes) and fight shine without shifting makeup. In addition, it is very pleasant to see how the oil flows from our skin and is transferred to paper. Ready to try? Makeup Blotting Paper NYX Professional Available in four types - Matte, Fresh Face, Green Tea and Tea Tree - designed to address a variety of concerns while keeping shine under control.
