1. Contraceptives - mechanical

Mechanical methods of contraception, including condoms, are the most popular contraceptive method used by couples who have sex. They work by creating a barrier for sperm to prevent them from reaching the egg.

In addition to condoms, IUDs, vaginal membranes, and cervical caps are also mechanical methods of contraception. These contraceptives do not affect the blood coagulation system and the woman's fertility. Condom use also protects against sexually transmitted diseases. However, their use carries the risk of breakage, slipping or improper installation.

2. Contraceptives - chemical

Chemical contraceptives contain spermicides that perform several tasks. They limit sperm viability and cause paralysis, and thicken the vaginal mucus, making it difficult for them to penetrate the egg. Spermicidal gels, vaginal globules, contraceptive foams, vaginal sponges, and spermicidal creams are available on the market.

The use of, for example, hormonal pills affects the course of ovulation and the state of the endometrium in such a way that it prevents fertilization. Individual methods of hormonal contraception differ in the size of the dose and the way the hormones are administered. The Pearl Index in their case ranges from 0.01 to 0.54. Turn on hormonal contraceptives birth control pills, birth control injections, birth control chips, birth control implants, birth control patches, and after pills.

The most common of this group are birth control pills, which reduce the risk of ovarian cancer and the symptoms of premenstrual tension. However, it has been associated with blood clots and liver problems. Self-discipline and regularity are also important, as the tablets should be taken regularly.
