Lubricant - intimate moisturizing gels, how to choose a good moisturizing gel

Moisturizing gels or lubricants are a way of moisturizing the vagina, making intercourse easier when natural moisture is disrupted. Contrary to appearances, they are useful not only for women in perimenopause, but also for themselves. Lubricants are also needed from time to time in young women who have problems with vaginal dryness for any reason (for example, due to taking oral contraceptives) and those who wish to have anal intercourse.

1. Properties of moisturizing intimate gels

Lubricants, other than moisturizing, may have the following properties:

  • anti-inflammatory agent
  • spermicidal,
  • warming,
  • cooling,
  • taste and smell,
  • supporting fertilization.

Lubricants, or lubricants, are most often used in cases of difficulty with physiological lubrication of the vagina during intercourse. They are especially useful in the perimenopausal period when hydration is impaired for various reasons (for example, when using oral contraception) or if you want to try anal or Spanish sex. If you're going to use a gel with a condom, make sure it's water-based or silicone-based, as these types of moisturizers are the only ones that won't damage it.

The composition of various lubricants differ from each other - so always check what is in the composition of the lubricant you have chosen. The most commonly found ingredients are:

  • glycerin is a thickening and moisturizing ingredient, but it is not indifferent to the vaginal flora and in some cases can cause infections or allergic reactions;
  • water - lubricants containing water are smoother, gentler, do not disturb the bacterial balance, but dry quickly and need to be repeated;
  • fat or oil - friction-reducing ingredients like the two above, but similar in effect to glycerin - can lead to bacterial imbalance in the vagina, and can also reduce the effectiveness of a rubber condom;
  • silicone - vaginal moisturizing gels containing this ingredient are less irritating to sensitive people, they do not dry out as quickly as water-based intimate gels, and they cannot be used with silicone "delights" such as vibrators;
  • sugar - added to some lubricants can cause infections if it gets on fertile ground.

2. How to choose a good lubricant?

Pay attention to what it is constipation lubricant chosen by you. Those containing silicone, glycerin, fat or oil will be thick and suitable for anal sex or severe vaginal dryness. These water-based products are enough when we need only a little moisture for sex.

Lubricants are just a way to make intercourse easier and not prevent pregnancy. Even if the package says that the gel contains spermicides, it is not enough as a contraceptive. If we don't want to get pregnant, we have to protect ourselves, for example by using condoms.

They are already there too. sperm support lubricants in conception. They contain calcium and magnesium, have the correct pH and osmolarity and do not contain substances harmful to sperm. If you don't want to be embarrassed to browse finished products at a pharmacy or store, you can also use:

  • regular olives,
  • Coconut oil,
  • vaseline.

Remember that you can not use cosmetics that are not intended for moisturizing intimate areas (above homemade lubricants will be safe as they do not contain additional ingredients), as they can irritate them and cause inflammation.
