Formation of an orgasm. What happens in your brain when you have an orgasm?

Istock

This is a strong physical sensation that we experience during sex or masturbation. In the case of men, we can even partially "see" this process with the naked eye - first, ejaculation occurs, the muscles contract strongly, and then hormones of happiness are released. As for women, it's a little more complicated, because really everything happens "inside". However, we have one thing in common - orgasm really starts in the brain.

Orgasm is without a doubt one of the most exciting experiences. Although it is very short (female orgasm usually lasts about 20 seconds, male only 10 seconds), it gives us an amazing feeling of happiness and relaxation. Some define it as "an explosion of pleasure within the body."

How does an orgasm actually occur? What hormones are released into the blood? What role does our brain play in this process?
