HOW TO BECOME A TATTOO ARTIST

You won’t surprise anyone with a tattoo on the body now: a tattoo is a popular and popular decoration. In large cities, people with tattoos can easily be found at almost every step. And we are talking not only about young people belonging to informal subcultures: tattoos are also made for adults holding leadership positions, including in the public service.

The most important thing, without which no tattoo artist can work, is the ability to draw. If you don’t know how, don’t even pick up a tattoo machine: just ruin someone’s skin.

The better you can draw, the more experience you have, the more techniques and styles you master, the more prospects you will have in this profession, and the more money you can earn. Therefore, first of all, you should learn to draw.

Many masters, even well-known outside their own country, have learned the art of tattooing on their own.

First, you should complete a full course of study at an art school. Secondly, you need to get a medical education. Of course, we are not talking about training as a dentist or surgeon. But the courses of a nurse (nurse) will be very useful: they teach how to properly disinfect the skin and tools, and take care of wounds. In order not to waste time looking for useful information, you can also take courses from an experienced tattoo artist (working at home or in a studio). Now such trainings are offered by many masters. They can teach different things - from styles and directions in a tattoo to varieties and rules for choosing a technique. You can choose the topics of study yourself - depending on what you already know and what you want to understand.

Such courses are quite expensive: for 10-20 hours of classes, several hundred dollars can be asked. They can be held not only for beginners, but also for those who want to master some new style - after all, there are a lot of directions now, and each has its own nuances of work.

Even if you are an artist from God and draw masterpieces with a pencil, you will have to get used to working with a tattoo machine. Since the skin is not paper, and it is difficult to remove the paint from under it, it is better to do the first drawings not on the face. For training, you can use: artificial leather (sold in tattoo shops), pigskin.

However, please note: working with such material is not close to real work. Human skin is stretched, folded, wrinkled. Different ways of working and in different areas: for example, the easiest way (for the master and for the client) is tattooing the shoulders, forearms, back of the lower leg (lower leg), upper and outer thighs. It is more difficult for the master (and more painful for the client) to work on the ribs, abdomen, chest, inner thighs, elbows and knees, collarbones.

Therefore, it is recommended to train the most basic actions on artificial materials: maintaining a straight line, creating contours (this is what can and should be trained most of all on artificial material), drawing, color transitions.

After your hand is used to holding the typewriter and displaying lines, you can move on to practice. It's easiest to use your own legs for the first "real" job. If you do not want to draw on your own, you can start looking for customers.

Among all types of employment, finding clients for a tattoo artist is the easiest and fastest. You just need to create a page on the social network, regularly upload photos of your work there - and they will write to you. Or you can not create a separate account, but indicate information about their services directly on your personal page. However, this is not the initial stage.

In the beginning, you need to complete at least a dozen tasks to earn a portfolio and get reviews. You can find your first customers in the following ways:

Offer a free tattoo to everyone you know. Having a drawing on the body is now very fashionable, and those who want to save money (even a small tattoo is unlikely to be cheaper) will definitely be found.

Offer a free tattoo on social media

Get a job at a tattoo parlor. Salons often take newbies for free (or may ask for more money).
