For the lesson we need:

2. Colored pencils, the author uses Faber castell.

3. Simple pencil

4. Klyachka (eraser)

5. A lot of patience.

Step 1. I transfer the drawing to a sheet of paper, erase the construction lines with a nag. If a simple pencil remains on the paper - it is not a fact that it can be covered with colored pencils, it is better to leave a barely visible silhouette.

I immediately choose a few pencils for the main tone of the scales, eyes, fins, etc. Blue and bluish colors will prevail.

I do the same with the other eye. I start working on the mouth of the macropod, shading the area around it. Each layer will give more saturation to a particular area. It is better to constantly "mix" the layers of pencils. For example, after the blue "layer" go greenish or purple. This will give the work a more picturesque and realistic look.

Step 3. I continue to work on the head of the fish. Now I add brownish shades on the future edges of the scales.

You can move on to drawing the gills. Now red, red and green are added to purple and bluish hues. Be sure to consider in advance where the illuminated places will be located, because colored pencils are quite difficult to correct.

Step 4 Now you can work on the body of the macropod. I apply the first layer. On the reference, this part of the fish is quite vague, I did not achieve exactly the same effect, but I did not begin to highlight it very much either.

I apply the second layer, with the addition of secondary colors - ocher, green, emerald, dark blue. Don't forget about shadows and light.

Step 5. Fins. I draw the fin "bones", it is important to give a "shiny" look - leave more light places and highlights, because they not only reflect light, but are also a little transparent.

I put a tone on that part of the fin, behind which is the body of the fish. It is necessary to try to convey exactly the transparency of the fin.

Step 6. The final stage. It remains to draw the tail and the lower and upper fins, which we will do. The technique is still the same.

I wanted to leave it in this form, without drawing the background. But I told myself that I need to learn how to draw a background. Therefore, I tried to portray a kind of aquarium with algae. So, finished work:
