How to draw Santa Claus with gouache paints
A very simple and easy lesson on how to draw Santa Claus with gouache paints in stages. Suitable for children and adults for New Year's cards or New Year's drawings. Very detailed description and pictures. Here is a picture of Santa Claus with twigs and Christmas toys. We will need a sheet, brushes and gouache, as well as a simple pencil for a sketch of Santa Claus.
Visually divide the sheet into equal three parts horizontally and vertically, and in the very central rectangle we draw an oval that will serve as our head. You do not need to draw the lines that are shown in the image, this is done for clarity. Inside the oval we draw another one, its center is located just below the middle of the large one.
Next to the small oval, draw two small circles on the sides and draw a smooth line below. This is how we got the nose of Santa Claus.
Next, draw the mustache and eyebrows.
Draw the eyes and the top of Santa Claus's hat.
Now a fluffy beard.
We start drawing the lower lip and the main part of the cap, which is red.
We draw lines from the head that show us the big collar of Santa Claus. The head of Santa Claus is ready.
Now we take a brush and paints (you can take any paints you have: gouache, watercolor, acrylic) and start painting. Those who do not have paints can color Santa Claus with felt-tip pens, colored pencils, pastels. Take the blue color and paint the background.
Take the red color and paint over the hat. After that, wash the brush and mix two colors separately: blue and white, to make blue. If there is a blue color in the palette, take it. In blue, paint over the part of the hat that should be white and the collar. For the edge of the collar, use brush strokes towards the edge of the collar (shown by the yellow arrows).
Now again mix blue with white, but so that the color is lighter than the collar and cover Santa Claus's mustache, beard and eyebrows with light blue.
For the face, you need to shift a lot of white + quite a bit of ocher + three times less red than ocher. If there is no ocher color, then mix a lot of white with a little yellow + a little brown + three to four times less red than yellow + brown. You should get a flesh color, if it is too dark, then leave a part for the nose, and add white to the other part. We paint over the face with flesh color. For the nose, lips and cheeks, add just a little bit of red to the flesh color. See what color should turn out in the picture.
For the outline of the face and nose, add a little brown to our already blended skin color. Wash the brush well and use brow white. We make strokes from the bottom of the eyebrow up.
Add white highlights to the nose, cheeks and where the eyes should be.
With black gouache we draw eyes, eyelashes, draw a nose with very thin lines and draw folds on the cap. For the fluffiness of the white part of the cap and bubo, we poke the brush tightly against each other. We use white gouache.
Draw a mustache and beard as in the picture, and highlights on the cap.
Circle the contours with blue gouache. You can create volume for the collar. In this case, I used a flat brush to create the effect. If you do not have such a brush, then you can not do it at all or use a regular one, only with gently thin strokes.
We draw snowflakes and snow with white paint, for branches we take green. First, we draw the rods, and then draw curves close to each other in the direction of growth of the needles from the base.
Use some green and blue to create shadows on the branches of the tree. For toys we use red gouache.
In white, add glare and snow on the branches, in black - strings for Christmas decorations. Santa Claus is ready. Alternatively, you can use the head (face) of Santa Claus for the New Year card, and instead of branches, draw something else or just make the inscription “Happy New Year!”.
