Everything you ever wanted to know about nipple piercings

Nipples are being discussed online at the moment, so we decided to tell you about them! You wonder a lot about nipple piercings. Whether it is a woman or a man, we have tried to answer your most frequent questions!

What decoration for the pose to choose?

Are you wondering what is the best way to heal with a ring or a barbell? The question will be answered quickly: the barbell! Indeed, a straight bar is the most suitable gem for optimal healing. Unlike a ring, the bar will stay in place in the piercing. It is also a way to reduce the risk of snagging.

The strip should be slightly larger than your nipple; you should leave a few millimeters of space on each side between the ball and the nipple. Installing a larger bar prevents the balls from rubbing on the nipple and, as a result, irritation. After piercing, the nipple will be swollen. Thus, using a larger bar is a way to facilitate the healing of the nipple.

At first, you will not be able to put on the jewelry. You will need to choose a simple barbell with the same size balls to balance the weight. For example, wearing pendant jewelry can add weight to the piercing by pulling it down. This can cause the gem to rotate on its axis, slow healing, or even irritate. After the piercing is completely healed, you can change the jewelry for something more fashionable!

Titanium posing jewelry must be worn. To understand the benefits of titanium, read our article on the topic.

How long does it take for a nipple piercing to heal?

A nipple piercing requires at least 3 months to heal. This duration is indicative and can vary from person to person, so it depends on you and how you feel.

After 3 months, if you feel comfortable with your jewelry, your nipple does not hurt, it is no longer swollen and irritated, you will probably be able to change the jewelry.

Be aware that it is not necessary to change jewelry after healing: if surgical jewelry suits you, you can keep them for yourself or simply change the tips of the bar.

Either way, come back to our store before you do anything: advice from a professional piercer is the only way to make sure your healing is complete.

How can we help healing?

After piercing, you should take care of the healing of the nipples. For at least one month in the morning and evening, you will need to lather a small drop of pH neutral soap, return it to the puncture site, and rinse thoroughly with hot water. Then let it dry and apply physiological serum. After a month, if the piercing is going well, you can switch to once a day instead of two! For just one month, you will disinfect the area after this treatment with a non-alcoholic antiseptic solution. Do not move or twist the piercing while brushing. Simply clean the ends to keep the piercing clean.

Cover the piercing with a bandage within 1 week when going outside. For 1 month, if you go to dirty, smoky places or exercise, also consider covering your piercing with a bandage. In a clean environment, remove the bandage to allow the piercing to breathe.

Avoid tight clothing and bras for the first few weeks to avoid rubbing against jewelry. Prefer cotton clothing and avoid hitting the mesh directly on the piercing, which increases the risk of snagging.

Whatever happens, do not play with your piercing, much less during the healing period.

Does your nipple piercing hurt?

Like all piercings: yes, it hurts a little! But don't believe this piercing is more painful than others. Indeed, as with every piercing, the action itself lasts only a few seconds, making the pain more bearable. However, it is impossible to give a scale for pain, as it depends on the sensitivity of each person.

Are all nipple morphologies visible?

Yes, all types of nipples can be pierced, even those that are inverted (which, contrary to what is commonly thought, are very common).

If you have any doubts, you can go to one of our stores and ask one of our professional piercers. He will calm you down 😉

Note: we do not pierce women and men under 18 because your body is not fully formed yet. If you have had your piercing earlier, the gem will quickly stop fitting and become too small over time, which can cause complications.

Do you lose nipple sensitivity after piercing?

It's a great legend, but ... NO, we do not lose our sensitivity... But we can win or it doesn't change anything! Again, this depends on each individual.

Woman nipple piercing

Can a woman who has a pierced nipple breastfeed?

This question comes up a lot, and the answer is YES, you can breastfeed even if you have one or more nipple piercings! In fact, the nipple piercing does not touch the milk ducts that carry milk to the nipple to feed the baby.

However, it is best to remove nipple piercings during pregnancy and breastfeeding for several reasons:

  • From the third trimester of pregnancy, the body begins to produce colostrum, which is gradually replaced by breast milk. It is therefore necessary that it can drain freely and be easily cleaned to limit the risk of maceration and infection;
  • When breastfeeding, it is unpleasant for a baby to suck on a cold metal rod;
  • In addition, piercings or beads may be swallowed by the child.

Depending on the woman and how quickly each woman recovers, it may be possible to wear the jewelry again after childbirth and after breastfeeding ends.
