Piercing Healing Care

For all those who have questions about their new piercing, and even more so while in custody, here's a quick reminder on how to take care of them for optimal healing ... Don't forget that you can find all of these practical care advice provided by to you in the shop on the day of the piercing!

Warning: The treatments described in this article are valid for piercings of the ears, navel, nose (nostrils and septum), and nipples. For piercings around the mouth or tongue, you must additionally use a non-alcoholic mouthwash.

Rule # 1: don't touch your piercing

Our hands are covered with germs (we are well aware of this thanks to gestures that prevent COVID). You need to keep them away from your new piercing. Therefore, NEVER touch the piercing without first washing your hands.

As a general rule, remember that you should limit contact with the piercing as much as possible so as not to impair healing.

Rule # 2: use the right foods

For optimal healing of new piercings, you need to use the right products.

You will need to use mild (pH neutral) soaps, physiological serum, and alcohol-free antibacterial products. The procedures are carried out as follows:

  • Apply some mild (pH neutral) soap to your fingers;
  • Apply hazelnut to piercing. Do not rotate the piercing! It is simply necessary to clean the contours of the latter so that there are no microbes that can nest there;
  • Rinse thoroughly with hot water;
  • Let dry;
  • Rinse with physiological serum;
  • Let dry;
  • FOR TWO WEEKS ONLY: Apply some alcohol-free antibacterial.

We cannot say this enough: these procedures must be carried out with clean hands (clean hands = disinfected) in the morning and evening for a minimum of 2 months (except for antibacterial: only 2 weeks). In addition to antibacterial treatments, you can continue these treatments even after two months; it won't damage your piercing!

Rule # 3: Don't Remove Scabs That Form

As the piercing heals, small crusts form, and that's completely normal!

It is important not to pull off these scabs as there is a risk of micro-lesions that will prolong the healing time. Therefore, in no case should you weave jewelry.

Only in a shower with very hot water can the crusts soften. After getting out of the shower, you can put a compress on the scabs. They will come off on their own. If not, leave them alone! They will go away on their own as soon as the wound heals.

Rule # 4: don't sleep on it

This rule is especially true for ear piercings. We know it's hard not to fall asleep on it, but at least try not to fall asleep on your pierced ear.

Tip: You can place a towel on the bed under your back. Rubbing with your back will restrict your movement (this is the same technique used with newborns to prevent them from turning during sleep).

Rule # 5: avoid damp places

Humid areas such as swimming pools, hammams, saunas or spas should be avoided for at least one month. I also prefer a shower over a bath.

Why ? For the simple reason that bacteria love humid and warm places, where they can multiply as much as they want!

Rule # 6: for edema

It is very likely that your piercing will swell during the healing period. First of all, don't panic! Swelling is not necessarily synonymous with infection; it is a classic reaction to skin damage. On the contrary, disinfecting a piercing can irritate it and make it more vulnerable.

In case of edema, you can put the physiological serum in the refrigerator to make a cold (sterile) compress for the piercing. The cold will relieve the swelling. If, in spite of everything, they do not disappear, contact us!

Rule # 7: Respect Healing Time Before Changing Jewelry

Never change jewelry if the piercing is still painful, swollen, or irritated. This can cause additional problems and increase healing time. In addition, we recommend wearing jewelry that is the right size and material.

For these reasons, we recommend that you check your piercing before changing jewelry. We can confirm the effective healing of your piercing and suggest suitable jewelry. It is difficult to verify healing during incarceration. So please be patient and visit our store when it reopens so we can recommend you.

In any case, if any abnormal swelling or pain appears, if growth is growing, or if you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact us directly through our customer service. You can attach a photo to us so that we can best assess the problem from a distance.

We remain at your disposal in case of problems. As a reminder, all treatments and a list of products are available in the online care guide.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones during this difficult time. Know that we can't wait to see you in person!
