How to Schedule a Curated Ear Piercing

While multiple ear piercings in and of themselves are nothing new, in late 2015, curated ears burst onto the scene. Since then, their popularity has not faded. The curated trend transforms ear piercings from a single accessory into a gallery of individual style.

Today we will look into the curatorial ear:

  • What they
  • How to plan / design
  • General questions
  • Where to get pierced

What is curated ear piercing?

A curated ear is more than a few piercings. Each piercing and piece of jewelry is carefully chosen to complement each other and your look, like a curator putting together an art gallery. When choosing an ear piercing, the shape of the ears, your personal style and other piercings are taken into account.

This is an intellectual, artistic approach to piercing. It can use all kinds of ear piercings and jewelry. Some of the most popular include:

  • Lobe piercing
  • helical piercing
  • Nostril Piercing
  • Conch Piercing
  • Tragus piercing

How to Plan a Carefully Fitted Ear

There are four basic steps to planning a supervised ear:

  1. Evaluate
  2. Choose a theme/style
  3. Choose a piercing
  4. Choose jewelry

Step 1: evaluation

The first thing you need to do is evaluate the shape of your ear. The shape of your ear determines which one will look best and may rule out some piercing options. For example, many people cannot get a neat piercing due to the shape of their ears. In this case, you will need to choose an alternative such as breaking a low rook.

Also, you should evaluate any existing piercing. If you already have piercings, they should be taken into account. If you don't want to get a piercing, you will need to wait for it to heal completely or avoid getting too close to the area. If you want to keep it, your design must include this piercing.

Step 2: Choose a Theme/Style

There is an almost unlimited selection of piercing jewelry. So the only limit in styles and themes is your imagination. People may want to go with something simple like gold jewelry or discreet studs and rings. Or you can opt for something more eye catching like a colorful rainbow or themed decorations like a pirate or space theme.

With that in mind, you will have some idea of what kind of look you are going for in order to choose piercings and jewelry.

Step 3: Choose a piercing

For a custom-fitted ear, you can choose any number of piercings and any types that suit your ear shape. So think about what kind of look you want and how the piercing will look together.

Step 4: Choosing Jewelry

Most likely, you will choose two different sets of jewelry. During the planning phase, you need to focus on the jewelry you plan to keep long term. But you will also need to choose safe jewelry while your piercing heals. Once your piercing is completely healed, you can replace it with a piece of jewelry for your ear.

But for new piercings, it's best to choose safer jewelry styles and materials. For example, hoop earrings look cool, but they can easily move and/or snag. This is potentially dangerous for a new piercing and can slow down healing. Instead, you can start with a plank or stud.

Should I consult a piercer before or after planning a curated ear?

Some people prefer to consult with a piercer before planning their curated ear. Others first plan and then visit the piercing parlor. In any case, this is good, however, if you plan on your own, there is a chance that you will not be able to get certain ear piercings.

If your ear shape doesn't allow for a particular piercing, the piercer can recommend another one that matches your style/theme.

It's usually a good idea to go for a consultation with whatever themes or styles you have in mind. They can then help you choose the best ear piercing and jewelry.

How many piercings are in the supervised ear?

The usual range for a supervised ear is 4 to 7 piercings. But you don't have to limit yourself to this. The curated ear should have as many piercings as required to create the desired look, be it 3 piercings or 14. The only limit is how many you want and how much real estate you have in your ear.

Should I do all my piercings at once or one at a time?

You don't have to pierce your ears one at a time, of course, but there is a limit to the number of piercings at a time. As a general rule, we usually recommend doing a maximum of 3-4 piercings at a time.

Once these piercings have healed, you can return to complete the project. In this way, you can improve healing conditions and better manage post-operative piercing care.
