How Threadless Piercing Jewelry Works

Body jewelry without thread consists of two parts; a decorative end and a support post (or rod) into which it fits.

All decorative ends should be slightly bent before use to ensure proper tension on the support post. If the decorative end is not bent, there is a possibility that it may not properly connect to the support post and the decorative end may fall out.

How to bend threadless jewelry

  1. Insert the pin about halfway into the shaft (or a third for 14k gold threadless lugs).
  2. Bend the pin slightly as shown. The more you flex, the tighter the fit.
  3. Press the detachable end to close. The bent pin straightens inside the shaft, creating a spring force that holds the two parts together.
  4. Spread both ends to remove. If the embellishment is tight, add a slight twisting motion while pulling out the decorative end.

How to adjust the fit:

In step 2, bend the hairpin a little more if you want a tighter fit, or straighten the hairpin a little if you want a lighter fit.
