Yule is a celebration of life

Before Christmas was Yule - a time of powerful magic of light that conquers darkness.

The end of the kingdom of darkness is near - here it is during the winter solstice the night will slowly recede. And it was on this day full of magic, the day of the victory of the Great Mother Goddess (life) over the Horned God (death), one of the most important Wiccan holidays - Yule. Since time immemorial, the Celts and Germans have tried to attract prosperity to their homes.

They decorated this day evergreen tree - a symbol of invincible life - gifts of the earth: apples, nuts and sweets. In the evening, they lit as many candles as possible at home to celebrate the victory of light over darkness. They also invited their relatives to a feast and gave gifts to each other.

Doesn't this sound familiar? After all, this is our Christmas Eve and our tree! You are right - the pagan holiday of Yule was adopted by the Catholic Church, even a similar date was chosen, because. December 24.12. The custom of decorating a Christmas tree as we know it today appeared in Christian homes in the XNUMXth century (some explain that the Christmas tree symbolizes the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but researchers have not found any connections), and it came to Poland from Germany in XNUMXth century during the partitions.

In other words, the greatest symbol of Christianity on Christmas Eve is the pagan Christmas tree. But this only proves that the continuity of the tradition still exists, which is something to be glad about, since it means real power and magic.

In the evening, Yule, light as many red candles as there are near you.. Place the candles in a circle on the table. Place a gift next to each (nuts, seeds, sweets, greeting cards). When all the candles light up with an equally strong flame, close your eyes and say out loud:

May this fire cleanse your hearts and thoughts

and give you strength and hope to overcome

obstacles and take advantage of life's chances.

You can leave the candles to burn out completely or extinguish them when they are half burned out and use them for other rituals or home lighting during the Christmas holidays. Use gifts dedicated to your loved ones when preparing New Year's dishes, and send cards or attach them to gifts.
