St. Eligiush - Path to Holiness

Bishop and amulets? Isn't this a contradiction? Eligius of Noyon took office as bishop in the middle of the seventh century AD. He had an interesting life, he studied as a chaser, then thanks to his talent and honesty, which today seems incredible. But it was. Eligiusz was supposed to make a silver throne for the king of the Franks. Since he was entrusted with much silver, he made two thrones. Honesty opened the way for a career for him - he became chancellor, then managed the royal mint, became a bishop, and finally gave up all this and went to convert the pagans. Probably the catechesis of the pagans made Eligius a saint. It is not very clear who and when made St. Eligius the patron of goldsmiths, and for the miraculous union of a horse's leg with a horse, of course, without a trace and pain, he was also the patron of veterinarians and horse traders. I like this elderly patron more - Archangel Michael, if only because he has a sword to fight evil and he is also the patron of services and special forces.

Amulety biskupa

I wanted to draw attention to something else, namely, what is visible behind our saint. And you can also see balls of rock crystal and agate, a sprig of coral, yarrow, belemnites in and without frames, pearls, precious stones, balls of antimony, pieces of horn, coconut shells. There are also ready-made jewelry, a box with rings and a reliquary made of quartz crystal. You can take a closer look here.

You will say that these are materials and raw materials for the production of jewelry. Yes, but a special adornment, because an amulet is also an adornment, but endowed with power and having a special task - to protect the owner. The Roman Catholic religion condemns magic and astrology, and the amulet is pure magic. You will say that it is not surprising, because the picture was painted in the middle of the 1500th century, that it was the Renaissance, in which even Canon Copernicus created horoscopes, and Gregorian choirs fell out of fashion. Yes, but it's a portrait of a bishop. And this is in the halo of holiness. Does the saint sell amulets? The next picture is even more interesting. It is not the Bishop who sells, but the Son of God has a coral amulet around his neck. Heresy? I do not think that XNUMX years, because so much time has passed from the birth of Christ to the creation of these images, is not enough to change human nature, which took much longer to form. Can an amulet harm God? What a miracle
