Tompac instead of gold?

There are many ways to deceive a customer. Sometimes simple inattention can lead to the purchase of low-quality jewelry. One of the jewelers' tricks is to sell the so-called tompak instead of gold, which is sometimes also called red brass. It is very easy to confuse it with gold, since both metals have almost the same color. However, red brass is 80 percent copper. It's much cheaper and definitely less durable. When buying expensive gold jewelry, you can stumble upon a tompak. How, then, to distinguish a copper alloy from gold, and is it possible? Well, honest jewelry manufacturers should stick the MET stamp on the jewelry - the so-called. marks and tests. This avoids confusion. However, an ignorant client may not pay attention to this. On the other hand, the manufacturer could not put this mark at all, or, even worse, could put another mark that effectively convinced that this gold was of the highest quality.

Lower proof gold at a higher price

Probably one of the most popular ways to deceive a customer is sell gold or silver items of a lower standard. The most common scam has to do with gold. The manufacturer claims that this gold purity is high, which, in turn, goes hand in hand with a high price. However, you can get ahead of the scammer. It is enough to look at a sample of jewelry and compare it with the table of Polish prices and symbols. The gold of each trial has its own individual mark. This is worth paying attention to. But that's not all. Recognizing the signs is one thing, but you still need to be vigilant. Some sellers very often sell 333 gold chains - which are supposedly 585. Their clasps are made of much more expensive gold. Thus, the buyer is interested in the markings on the clasp, but does not remember that the rest of the chain could have been made of lower quality gold. Thus, customers pay huge sums of money for lower karat gold. 

Silver that isn't silver

Besides the gold scam, she also stands out tricks related to the sale of silver. Precious metals such as gold and silver should not react to magnesium in any way. This can be checked very quickly when buying. It is enough to put magnesium on the jewelry and check if it combines with it. Silver is diamagnetic, so under no circumstances should it react with magnesium. Sometimes manufacturers claim that the product is made of silver, but then it turns out that this is a popular surgical steel, which begins to change its color and blacken over time. However, in this case, it can be assumed that the seller is a scammer. 

Not gold, but gilding

Unfortunately, such products can be found in most jewelry stores. Buying gold items, the buyer hopes for jewelry made of precious metal. However, it later turns out that this decoration is gilded. This means that there is only a very thin layer of gold on the ornament, and under it is another, cheaper metal. Gold-plated jewelry is short-lived, so it can change its color over time. Rings are jewelry that is almost impossible to remove, so you can quickly tell if they are gold plated jewelry. The layer of gold wears away over time, revealing the metal underneath.

Of course, fraud can be avoided.
