In a variety called tiger's eye, the stripes are golden yellow to golden brown, and the background is almost black. A variety called the hawk's eye is blue-gray. The quartz cat's eye contains parallel strands of asbestos. Tiger's eye and hawk's eye result from the replacement of blue crocidolite with quartz.
