A piece of history on the finger, that is gold family signet rings

Golden family seal this is a decorative ring that used to serve wax seal. Most often engraved coat of arms or monogram. Nowadays, it is used as an element of men's jewelry. The beginning of the use of seals is associated with the Roman custom of use, i.e. personal rings with which letters were certified. From a certain point, or rather from the XII century, magnates and nobles began to use them for closed personal correspondence. Perhaps the most famous example of the traditional signet ring is the papal ring, which serves as the pope's personal seal.

What are laboratories and where did they come from?

When deciding on heraldic engraving the customer can choose the same coat of arms, enriched, among other things labrami. Floral ornament, usually symmetrical on both sides of the seal. This ornament very often covers the entire coat of arms. Labras are a symbol of a cape / cape, which was performed at tournament parades or a scarf that covered the helmet to protect it from overheating. Labras from the fourteenth century are in the form of ribbons, and only later, i.e. from the fifteenth century, they took on a form similar to the present, i.e. acanthus leaves. Golden Signet Rings they have been present in Poland since the XNUMXth century, often similar to German heraldry, but also often overlooked.

In Poland during the interwar period, where the wearing of gold seal rings was quite popular, yarrow was the most popular, not too heavy and easy to work with. Sports and commemorative seals

Men's signet ring this is what, probably, everyone thought, but not everyone decides on it. This is an interesting custom, which, however, has not yet reached Poland. master rings with seals Or signet rings symbolizing a souvenir. The simplest example would be the seals of the team that won the league championship. Be it NBA, NHL or NFL. A member of the winning team in the final receives a beautifully decorated gold or silver commemorative signet ring. Each year, these men's gold signet rings have a new look and are designed specifically for a specific team. University students have a similar practice. As a memento of the desire to capture memories in a piece of precious metal, they wear signet rings with the symbols of the prestigious schools they graduated from (Harvard, Oxford, Yale, etc.). It is the same with military units, whose symbols are engraved on signet rings and then proudly worn by the soldiers who served there. Will it be a custom that will come to Poland like Halloween or Valentine's Day? To be honest, it's unlikely, but as a curiosity it's worth noting.
