when Joan BremerA 31-year-old Californian woman who noticed bleeding in her seventh week of pregnancy told herself that it had happened to many women and she probably had nothing to worry about. Like many of us, he googled, but even his doctor was initially unsure of the extent of these leaks. But after exams and two grueling days of waiting, Joan saw a nightmare come true: unfortunately, she had an abortion.

It is a terribly painful experience that happens to one in four pregnant women, and it took Joan several weekends to recover. Back home, Joan began to think about how she could to mark this loss and her unborn child with a tattoo... Joan already has several tattoos, each with a meaning that she holds dear, such as a tattoo in honor of her wedding day with her husband. She then set about looking for a tattoo that would honor her child and talked to her husband about it to help her not get carried away with emotions in this important choice.

Today Joan's ankle is adorned with a tattoo with soft lines outlining a mother and baby with two small hearts. Although this amazing experience was now visible through the tattoo on Joan's body, she was reluctant to talk about it publicly. Until one evening he posted a picture of the tattoo (done by Joey of California Electric Tattoo) on Imgur.

In her post, Joan writes: "I did it to remember the child who was not destined to be born." The response to her message was almost instantaneous: strangers, friends and old acquaintances stepped up, writing messages of comfort and support for Jeanne and her husband. Joan writes of this: “It made us feel less alone in this terrible experience. The response rate from others has been incredible. "

Initially, Joan reports that she was angry and resentful and immediately wanted to try again. But the tattoo was a milestone for her, a point of reflection that helps her to recover. If she ever has a baby, Joan has already stated that she will add a rainbow to her tattoo, representing the happy birthday event after an abortion.

Sharing this experience with the world not only helped Joan, who received comfort, but also helped couples feel less alone in the same situation.

“I'm proud of you,” said friend Joan. “Even if your child didn’t survive, you let him great impact on the world... I've never thought of it in such terms, but it's true, isn't it? "
