The tattoos below were done, among others, on the side of the Asphalt Jungle, Neko Tattoo Studio, or painted by tattoo artists such as Ben (Hand in a tattoo with a glove), Faustink (Le Phylactère) or on the side of Badabing Tattoo Shop by the very talented David in Montpellier (studio, which we will present to you in more detail shortly).

Its rounded shapes and iridescent colors make it recognizable at first sight. Irrevocably attached to Russia, matryoshka originally personified a peasant woman, but not only!

Currently, from what has become a real industry in Russia, various varieties of Russian dolls have emerged. Some look like Soviet leaders, politicians like Putin or Obama, or even members of the Pussy Riot group. Matryoshka, with its satirical potential, is a reflection of our time.

The first nesting dolls do not date back to the times of Ivan the Terrible! But do you know who inspired the famous doll? It is a Japanese nesting sister representing the seven happiness deities inspired at the end  XIXe century is such a popular Russian doll. In 1890, the East was appreciated by Russians (and not only Russians), and the Deities of Happiness brought from Japan by the industrialist Savva Mamontov will inspire the artist Sergei Malyutin, who created the Russian version of these Japanese nesting dolls.  Ah, Russian doll tattoo! 

For Russians, it symbolizes family, brothers and sisters, friendship or even fantasy. Matryoshka also awakens motherhood and fertility. Well yes, all the little dolls enclosed in the biggest ones can be  children! The Russian doll is a tribute to women, because at the time when epidural anesthesia did not exist, many died in childbirth. It is also a sign of prosperity and eternal renewal.
