All about rhinestones

Rhinestones are most commonly used in the jewelry industry. It is assumed that they imitate various types of precious stones, most often diamonds. This is by far the cheaper and therefore more affordable solution, and many people find it just as effective. How are rhinestones made and where are they used? You will find answers to these questions in the article below.

What are rhinestones?

This is a stabilized conventional modification zirconia. We can call cubic zirconia imitations of diamonds made of glass, paste or quartz. Sequins used in handicrafts or clothing are most often made from a plastic such as acrylic or a resin material. The jewelry uses more durable and spectacular rhinestones, not much different from diamonds. 

Rhinestones are usually colorless, however, it is possible to change their color with the help of various types of impurities, incl. chrome or cobalt. Thanks to this, you can create an imitation of almost any gemstone. 

History of cubic zirconia

Rhinestones from German - it was here that they were first discovered by a famous mineralogist in the 40s. Unfortunately, this knowledge was not used at first - the Russians began to produce cubic zirkonia 40 years later. Synthetic stabilized zircon is currently produced on a large scale in Russia, Switzerland and the USA. From these countries, the most famous varieties of these trinkets come from - dzhevalit (Swiss variety) and cubic zirconia (Russian variety).

Applications of cubic zirconia

Contrary to appearances, zircons are not only used in jewelry, they are widely used in many other areas of our lives. Rhinestones are used, in particular, in медицинаspecifically in dentistry, as a permanent restoration based on zirconium oxide (ZrO2) and a framework for ceramic firing.   • Chanton rhinestones are available in both flat and spiky designs. Each brand has its own distinctive cutting technique and patents.
  • Rivoli cubic zirkonia - front and back pointed.
